Kenya Red Cross Nairobi County successfully held its annual Power of Humanity Walk, under the theme "Safety First, Safety Always," aimed at promoting safety in schools.
The vibrant procession kicked off at Nairobi Primary School, led by the Kenya Prisons Band. Their choice of songs energized the crowd as they made their way to Nyayo National Stadium.
This heartwarming event brought together over 3,000 volunteers, members, students and staff and well-wishers, all united by a shared commitment to fostering safer learning environments. The walk was graced by the Head of Region,Mr George Ndolo,the regional team ,and the Nairobi County Board ,lead by the Chair person, Dr Vinod.
Proceeds from the walk will support safety initiatives in schools, ensuring that children learn in environments that prioritize their well-being and preparedness.

"Know Them"
Kelly Wangwe is a life member of the Kenya Red Cross Society. Her journey began as an attachée in Nakuru Branch before transitioning into a volunteer role in Nairobi County, driven by a deep passion for service and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
With a background in Gender and development studies, Kelly has combined her academic knowledge with hands-on experience to build community resilience and integrate gender-based violence (GBV) awareness and response into humanitarian efforts.
Currently, she serves as a Project Assistant for the UCRB Project in the informal settlements of Mathare and Mukuru, focusing on GBV and mental health. Her work has led to the establishment of GBV and Mental Health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) referral pathways for communities, particularly benefiting young men in these areas. Additionally, she has contributed to other community initiatives, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) awareness, sensitization programs, and mobile clinics under the UNFPA Project. She has also been actively involved in Community Integrated Outreaches and has served as part of the Epidemic Preparedness and Response Team under the PHiE Program.
Beyond project work, Kelly is an active member of the Red Cross Action Team in Nairobi County, serving as a trained first aider and emergency responder. She is also a dedicated advocate for gender, protection, and inclusion during emergencies.
Kelly’s commitment to youth empowerment is evident in her training as a Peer Facilitator and Psychological First Aider. She has played a pivotal role in school engagement activities, mentoring students on School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SR-GBV), Sexual Reproductive Health, and mental health issues.
As a humanitarian and gender advocate, Kelly continues to inspire change. Through her work in education, community resilience, and emergency response, she is shaping a future where safety, dignity, and equality are upheld for all.

Community cleanups contribute to a cleaner, healthier and more vibrant living environment for residents.
Earlier today, the @KenyaRedCross in conjunction with the 56 Youth reformed CBO,
Dagoretti Greeners CBO, The office of the ward Administrator and other partners held a community clean-up exercise at Kawangware Area.
This was a good platform to sensitise the community on good hygiene practices as well as disseminate the fundamental principles of the #RedCrossRedcrescent movement to the community.
Humanitarian drivers often encounter obstacles, but their dedication and perseverance enable them to deliver vital aid and assistance to those in need.
Their efforts make a significant difference in supporting communities affected by various crises and disasters.

*First Aid Tip 💡 : Food Poisoning*
Food poisoning occurs when you eat food or drink a beverage that is contaminated.
Symptoms range from mild to severe & include ;
🔹nausea 🔹vomiting 🔹diarrhea 🔹abdominal pain 🔹fever
Common causes include :
1️⃣ Not cooking foods properly
2️⃣ Not adhering to recommended storage temperatures
3️⃣ Someone who is unwell or has poor hygiene handling the food
4️⃣ Cross contamination — spreading germs between food, surfaces & utensils.
*What to do:*
🔸 *Stay hydrated* - take plenty of fluids to replenish those lost via diarrhoea & vomiting.
🔸 You can also use *Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS)* or mix 1 teaspoon of salt & 6 of sugar in 1 litre of clean water if ORS is not available.
Seek advanced medical help for all severe cases.
