@Capt_Smugwatch Govt is probably trying to balance the virus threat against the suicides, abuse, heart attacks, strokes and so on that will almost certainly spike in a prolonged strict lockdown. Every action comes with a price.
@BNODesk Some hope: looks like drug "favipiravir" could help infected medical workers to recover more quickly and maybe bring down the R0 for those with mild/mod #corornavirus https://t.co/9pW3sJZnXv
@beaglefacts@Abby_B19 My research shows that my Beagle girl swims fastest when she's after a duck. Problem is the duck always does the cheaty flying thing.
@BNODesk I think UK Boffins dropped the truth bomb that everyone else can't face. The vaccine - if there ever is one - will come too late. Lockdowns can't be sustained long enough. S. Korea's approach can't be sustained long enough. It is what it is.
@Mevolander @Watertankkitty @MyPathToTravel @BNODesk I'm sure a lockdown is coming, but a big part of today's presentation was about getting the timing right for these big measures. Go too early, and people will break discipline right at the point it's most needed.
@BNODesk The only possible silver lining here is that due to the incubation period, we're not yet seeing the effect of the lockdown, and probably won't for a few more days.
@PriceMomentum @BNODesk Have a read - first hand account from one of the frontline docs in Italy (read it through properly, let what he's saying sink in): https://t.co/aU1FzZILF9
Wishing Italy all the best but I disagree with "doing nothing". Carefully reviewing the PM + boffins recent conference it seems clear they've modeled the hell out of this, and are taking the path that should produce the least worst outcome. Unplanned reaction helps no-one.
@Nadjdaniela I live in Italy and the situation in the hospitals is not good - there is almost no more room. Italy tried to stop this quickly 2 weeks ago and it hasnt worked yet, the UK is doing nothing. Please do not under estimate this virus.
@ajaclare @BNODesk Italy has stamped down hard on the brake pedal, but how long can that be sustained? The UK boffins seem to think they can just tap the brake pedal at appropriate times and it'll get bad, but not *too* bad. Have they got it right? Well we'll know soon enough.
