It’s bad enough that @OntarioParks is charging $10 a bag for wet unseasoned wood, but watching a park staff member go around campsite to campsite collecting any logs and kindling left by one camper for another is appalling. Do better. Be better.
Things I’ve Learned
What I wish I knew at 18…
1. College is mostly a scam
I’m glad I went to college, because I wanted to work on Wall Street. But today, I wouldn’t waste $300,000 on it, and I wouldn’t want to work in banking. Instead, I’d load up on college credits during high school, go to a school like the University of Texas to have fun, graduate in 3 years debt-free, and travel around the world for a year.
A lesson in life.
Call from a colleague today…
“Keith, I’ve got a 80 year old man with jaundice and fever from a large 2cm gallstone wedged in the bile duct. He’s on anticoagulation for PE. I just have a bad feeling about him and I think he needs an ERCP today.”
@rbarbosa91 Besides ease of placement, would this technique further reduce inflammatory reactions? I ask because my TKA has been “spitting” stitches for several months and perhaps for future surgeries (should I require any) this could be a recommended technique to prevent that. Thanks.
@RNSuperHero Before my 1st TKA, the SDS nurse charted I had no pedal pulses. I didn’t say anything cause I wanted to see if anyone picked up on that, seems important before removing and replacing my knee, but not one person rechecked or said a word! So your story doesn’t surprise me at all.
@RNSuperHero In the ICU where I work, we have several 4 bed rooms where we will do “the rounds” every few hours and as a group turn/change/wash up each patient to make it a little easier. I cannot imagine being expected to go turn 30 patients in one go.
Ok Med peeps, serious question. How long does it realistically take before you are not as symptomatic with a low Hb? Like when can I make it up the stairs without feeling like I cannot catch my breath?
@LakotaMan1 Some Catholic schools wont allow students to dress up for Halloween because of its historical connection to Paganism. I grew up loving Halloween, Valentines Day, and St. Patrick’s Day because as a foster kid I didn’t need a family to celebrate and be apart of the festivities
@Dr_Oubre If you’re rotating through a unit, ask an experienced nurse the “usual” orders to save everyone’s time later on.
Know that some things are not immediate. Raising one’s voice to ask for a medication again when the nurses are clearly preparing it divides the team effort
@RNSuperHero I’m in my early 40’s and have that as part of my advanced directives. I’m also realistic that my immediate family have all died before 60, so I’m not looking to be living to 100. My husband & I even have what we could/could not live with, e.g. no sx if an accident makes me a quad
@AntiWokester80@CHCHNews As someone who worked through the pandemic in hospital, we saw ZERO cases of flu and next to no “colds” when people are wearing masks. So they protect against something’s and I’d personally rather not get the flu from a patient by wearing a mask.
@cmckinneymd@RNSuperHero At my work, the chat box does the same thing, but when new orders are received it’s barely noticeable. I’d love it if new orders popped up and had to be acknowledged instead of a chat box!
@tony_breu -Kelly clamps to aid in undoing sticky IV connections.
-Scented bath products since most ICU patients arrive without them but you want them to smell clean for their loved ones
-when on the rapid response team, I always have a vial of Phenylephrine and Norepi in my pocket
Happy Canada Day everyone!
Enjoy this thread of our prime ministers as animated characters!
23. Justin Trudeau (2015 - Present)
First son of a Prime Minister to serve as Prime Minister.
Only federal leader to take his party from third-party status to a majority government.
@drannamvaldez @GrittyNurse @NursePatMacRN Every. Single. Time. Even when we have the green CHG caps covering the hub between uses, I will still do a 15 second scrub.
Sometimes a crisis hits so hard that a country needs help from others to overcome it. That’s not one-way humanitarian saviourism, it’s international solidarity. 200 South African firefighters land in Edmonton, Canada to help fight the wildfire. Sound up 🔊
It’s my birthday. I’m 37 and I have some things I’d like to share, in no particular order.
1. No one thinks about you more than you do. That thing from two years ago that keeps you up at night? No one else remembers. Honor the memory and let it go.
@DrAmyPsyD I’m nursing school we were told to never hand a person a tissue box as it’s an unspoken sign you want them to stop crying. It’s okay to have them in the room or to pass them if they are explicitly asked for. I’ve always guided my practice by that standard.
