The biology of genomic extremes: extra chromosome sets (polyploidy) and genes with rarely used codons. We study this in organ development and regeneration.
Congratulations to Fox lab postdoc Archan Chakraborty @archan24 - he will be starting his own lab at @AUG_University this fall! Professor Chakraborty's lab will focus on polyploidy in the heart of flies and humans.
Applicants can send a CV and cover letter detailing specific interests related to our lab’s work. To send materials please visit the contact page of our website, linked to this profile.
My lab is accepting applications for a fully funded postdoctoral fellow position, beginning in 2027. Applicants must clearly articulate specific interests in our lab's research.
Postdocs will be empowered to develop a long-term research program that is intellectually distinct, yet broadly related, to our lab's work. Training will be provided related to obtaining funding and independent faculty positions.
New lab paper (first author- @Pr0fJess ) out @Dev_journal ! We name a new gene- Loofah- which resists potent cell death signals to promote the longest- lived cells in the fly intestine.
Press release on our latest paper, a collaboration with @PauFormosa and @RoederLab !

Thank you to organisers Renata Basto @BastoRenata and Zuzana Storchova @ZStorchova and everyone who joined us for this week's Workshop on Decoding Whole Genome Doubling: Insights From Evolution, Development and Disease.

What prevents an enlarged heart? Check out our new preprint: "Organ-specific rewiring of mitochondrial integrity through COX7A dictates cellular ploidy." First author is K99/R00 fellow Archan Chakraborty- currently on the job market!!!

The lab had a fantastic time at the @Duke_PCB retreat at Wrightsville Beach. Jane gave an awesome talk and was recognized for her recent first-author paper, and all other trainees gave posters (Archan won a prize for best poster).
Before starting her own lab at U Memphis in 2026, lab alum Dr Heidi Bretscher wins the award for best postdoc at U Minnesota! The award is named for her mentor, Dr Mike O’Connor. Congrats Heidi!!!!!
HUGE congrats to Fox lab postdoc Archan Chakraborty on his funded NIH K99/R00 pathway to independence award! He will be on the job market soon! Exciting work on polyploidy in the heart, using flies and human cells. https://t.co/BrcyMdpryd
New Fox lab paper- we did an unbiased genetic screen and found a new role in cell division for a protein linked to neural disease. Congrats to all, especially first author and MD/PhD student Jane Blackmer! Thanks to NIGMS and NASA for funding. https://t.co/13HyVPipMY
