The biology of genomic extremes: extra chromosome sets (polyploidy) and genes with rarely used codons. We study this in organ development and regeneration.

Wonderful trip a couple of weeks ago to give a talk at the Crick Institute in London followed by great talks by grad students Paulo Belato and Josh Silva at the International Polyploidy Conference in Wageningen, Netherlands.

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

Congratulations to Fox lab student Josh Silva on his @NatEyeInstitute grant! This F31 award supports his work in the model fruit fly to study immediate impacts of extra DNA (polyploidy) on metabolism and organ growth. His findings can reveal how extra DNA impacts cells/organs.

Congratulations to Fox lab Ph.D. student Erin Dickert on her funded @theNCI grant! This award supports her work in the model fruit fly to study how dividing cells respond to broken DNA. The molecules to be studied are also in humans, so her results can reveal new cancer biology.

This week we say goodbye to Archan Chakraborty, who is starting his own lab at Augusta University. Check out his new lab, focused on using flies to understand heart disease! He is actively recruiting new lab members and has NIH funding.

Super excited to feature our lab's work at #Dros27!

[Genetics Society of America @GeneticsGSA]

Meet three of our #Dros27 plenary speakers!

🧠 Vanessa Auld
🪰 Nichole Broderick
🧬 Don Fox

From glial biology to host-microbe interactions to genome stability and regeneration, they'll bring exciting science to Philadelphia. 🔗https://t.co/V61rDQnbXE

Huge congrats to Dr. Jake Klemm in our lab on his selection as a Jane Coffin Childs Fellow!

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

Looking forward to the 9th thesis defense in the history of our lab- the first from an MD/PhD student!

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

Congratulations to Fox lab postdoc Archan Chakraborty @archan24 - he will be starting his own lab at @AUG_University this fall! Professor Chakraborty's lab will focus on polyploidy in the heart of flies and humans.

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

Lab spring celebration- many pieces of exciting news by this group to be shared in the coming months!

[Takashi Akera @TakashiAkeraLab]

🚨Please repost!! 🧬We are hiring POSTDOC now!! Fully-funded 5-year position 👩🏻‍🔬👨‍🔬

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

Applicants can send a CV and cover letter detailing specific interests related to our lab’s work. To send materials please visit the contact page of our website, linked to this profile.

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

My lab is accepting applications for a fully funded postdoctoral fellow position, beginning in 2027. Applicants must clearly articulate specific interests in our lab's research.

[FoxLabNC @FoxLabNC]

Postdocs will be empowered to develop a long-term research program that is intellectually distinct, yet broadly related, to our lab's work. Training will be provided related to obtaining funding and independent faculty positions.
