Predictably, this drew some dumbass chud responses to the effect that earlier generations of the right failed precisely because they were gentlemanly in Scruton’s sense. Which entirely misses the point (as chuds always do). The earlier generations failed because they were not gentlemanly in Scruton’s sense, insofar as they were not (as Scruton says the gentleman is) courageous, protective, or bold. Their failures were vices of deficiency in these areas. But the chud, high on thumos but weak in intellect, does not know the difference between courage and belligerence, protectiveness and possessiveness, boldness and aggressiveness. Hence he stupidly thinks that the remedy to the older, ineffective right is to fall into the opposite extreme vices, vices of excess rather than deficiency. Thus do we have the gang of thugs, louts, and meatheads the chuds look to today as models of “masculinity” and leadership.
Congratulations to fellow Canadian, His Excellency Archbishop Petar Rajic, newly named Prefect of the Pontifical Household at the Vatican.
Wishing Archbishop Rajic all the best, we look forward to working with him in his new role at the heart of the Holy See.

“To stand up for truth is nothing. For truth, you must sit in jail. You can resolve to live your life with integrity. Let your credo be this: Let the lie come into the world, let it even triumph. But not through me. The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world. In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand fold in the future.” Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago, 1918-1956
Please pray for the repose of Anna Kim Hương who passed away yesterday at the age of 34. She refused cancer treatment to protect her unborn child, and after his birth in February, she began treatment but it was too late. She leaves behind her husband and two children. 🙏

“I knew my grandparents had lived harder lives than I had, but I didn’t realize just how hard. But I also learned that my grandparents did not see themselves as victims. For them, you had to make the best of your circumstances and, if you tried, you could find a way forward.”
