Biodiversità microbica, nuovi agenti infettivi per applicazioni biotecnologiche
Sono stati individuati da una ricerca del #Cnr, in collaborazione con @unibs_official e altre istituzioni internazionali.

We are hiring! The Plant Small RNA Biotechnology lab @ibmcp (Valencia 🇪🇸) offers a 2-year postdoctoral contract to develop small RNA-based, next-generation RNAi tools for antiviral crop protection. More details at https://t.co/uPcJqS3BQk

We lose USD 220 billion of trade in agricultural products each year due to plant pests.
Join us this #PlantHealthDay to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our world's #PlantHealth.

"What is a virus?"
The answer to this old question is going to change in b/c of studies like this. Here we discover +20,000 viroid-like agents & show exp. proof for 2 independent lineages of Viroid:RNA virus hybrids, linking these kingdoms of infectious agents.

Interested in knowing about a new world of more than 20000 viroid-like RNAs endowed with ribozymatic activity? Have a look at our paper where we also report viroid/virus hybrid RNA replicons (ambiviruses) https://t.co/pwFwdoshvl
Although the potential hosts of most of these new agents are unknown, many were found to replicate in fungi, including examples of giant circRNAs (>5,000 nt) which are hybrids of classical RNA viruses (enconding an RdRp) and viroid agents (circRNAs with autocatalytic ribozymes)
We are thrilled to announce our paper published in New Phytologist, in which we show how a chloroplastic viroid (an infectious non-coding RNA) colonizes its host via population bottlenecks and induces chlorosis https://t.co/OUgcPdgq51
This work is dedicated to the memory of our mentor and friend Prof. Ricardo Flores, who has been working on it till the last period of his life. This is one more of so many contributions Ricardo did to science.
