@PobudaTanya This was just my experience though. I know it is not everyone’s, but it’s mine and I owe my whole life today to the decision to learn from my experience. Not what he told me were my faults, but what I wanted to improve. You can’t control others, but you can control yourself.

@PobudaTanya For me, the only thing that kept me from fearing the future was feeling some control over my current situation. Mainly setting boundaries, being clear about intentions and what I want from my life, and learning I wasn’t a victim of circumstance.

@PobudaTanya ...but it’s an acquired skill. I’m not saying it’s easy, especially being at a disadvantage, but it is possible. I believe in supporting and building women up. I do see what you mean though. Totally agree that it’s easier when you have it. Not impossible when you don’t though.

@PobudaTanya That’s what I was getting at actually. In my relationship, I had no money, no power. Literally was locked in the house and degraded every day. I found ways to muster up tiny bits of power until I escaped, and those tiny bits grew exponentially. It is definitely easier now...1/2

@PobudaTanya My hope is that even women who are not white and powerful will feel they can stand up for themselves or understand where they have some control over certain situations. I’m not saying it’s easy, but I will never advocate that a woman can’t do this because of her race or status.

@PobudaTanya My goal is not to change anyone’s mind (this isn’t a debate), just to provide a different option for women who find comfort in finding power. Truth is the more I hear about women not being able or willing to say no, or manage more benign relationships, the more I worry for them.

@PobudaTanya Absolutely. That is my goal. As someone who has escaped a truly physically and emotionally abusive marriage, finding my agency really helped me in all areas of my life. Maybe that’s my privilege, but I hate seeing women hang onto a victim mentality when they deserve better.
