Thought this was neat on draft day...
Matvei Kotkov taken in the 4th round, 104th overall in 2026.
His model profile at the draft nearly identical to Johnny Gaudreau when he was drafted in 2011... 4th round, 104th overall.
Both born in August and were one of the youngest prospects taken in their respective drafts.
Similar smaller size.
Similar sick mitts.
Kotkov has apparently been dancing at the Bruins development camp too and standing out... that also sounds very familar!
Keep your eyes peeled for Kotkov in the future!
Jerry Forton said if Adam Kleber wanted to leave school this year there would've been an NHL contract waiting for him, and they feel he's developed into a high end prospect.
Pace-pusher. Speed. Zone exits. Creator. Really good finding space; adding motion from the back end. Relies purely on his feet and stick positioning defensively. Competent vs. the rush but needs more man strength because he can get out-leveraged around the net and on the boards.
Trading Byram for that massive haul and then taking the fairly cheap, high upside swing on Zellweger to replace his skating, puck-moving, and secondary offense is very clever stuff by the Sabres
Update: My understanding is that BUF's offer included the No. 4, a roster player, and a prospect but WPG was unwilling to include the No. 8.
As much as I may think WPG/BUF should be able to find a fit, my -current- expectation is that BUF keeps No. 4 and takes Malhotra if it can
In my opinion we should've paid him and then down the road we would've had assets by which to unload the remaining four-ish years of it. We'll see where Jarmo goes from here and who ends up being right in time
Buffalo GM Jarmo Kekalainen said “Alex Tuch will be missed,” but the Sabres are moving on from the talented winger.
He added they will look at a sign-and-trade, with multiple sources indicating Washington as the favourite
Multiple teams have confirmed Carolina is considering trade involving Alexander Nikishin. The 24 year old Stanley Cup champion is a pending RFA, so the Canes are weighing trade interest vs extension.
