Did you know that saprotrophic fungi need oxygen to produce methane?

Thanks very much to Kolby Jardine and colleagues for establishing this great story...happy to be involved in this work
Did you know that #methane likely enabled the evolution of life? In @NatureComms, we show how light and heat drove environmental methane formation prior to the origin of life until today: https://t.co/xvErR6Mpcs
An emotional moment: the work has been very much supported by my dear friend John T.G. Hamilton who died in 2022. Radical-Driven Methane Formation in Humans Evidenced by Exogenous Isotope-Labeled DMSO and Methionine https://t.co/2ZZRDlqp8n #mdpiantioxidants via @antioxidants_OA
Lucca Pfitzer managed to do both, experiment 🧪⚗️and theory 💻in his master thesis. With @JuleHeitkaemper and René Peters, that resulted in a nice work: https://t.co/2EORGoA076. Thanks @SimTechStuttga2 and @studienstiftung for 💰!
Just finished an exciting 2w long field campaign studying #ch4 emitting meltwater from the #Greenland#icesheer with @Sarahelisesapper, @Geow_UniHD and Getachew #IMAU@UniUtrecht. Still in total wonder of where this CH4 comes from and what biotic or abiotic processes are involved
Congrats to all of this year's student award winners and especially to our ORCAS members Sophia, Anna and Thomas, whose excellent bachelor, master and doctoral theses were selected for the Heinz-Friedrich Schöler prize for the environment!
After the looong covid break, we restarted our institute party traditions! 🥳🥳🥳This time a combined summer party & students "Tertiärteichfest".
Thanks all for organizing the amazing event!
Here are the lecturers, who got awards for their teaching engagement! 👇👇👇
