This will have almost no effect on the price of a home. "We're doing x to increase supply and y to encourage more loans, thus upping demand."
Yes, cut regulations and then cut some more. Hell, cut entire departments and agencies. This is just trimming the bonzai of bureaucracy
The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act tackles some of the causes of the higher prices that are preventing too many Americans from realizing the dream of homeownership.
It’s just the latest item on Republicans’ agenda to address the cost of living.
I get wanting to dunk on Trump for the reflecting pool, but everyone is stupid. They repaired the pool (think new pool liner), but that doesn't mean one doesn't have to maintain the water chemistry. Chlorine, algaecides , etc.
@raylehmann@JeffreyBrandes The elimination of property tax as it prevents true private property ownership by the individual. Like Locke said, preservation of property is a top reason folks agree to unite under a government.
I support this. Brandes is right that the property tax rebate plan is a bad one. He's wrong in requiring a property tax is necessary, but I appreciate folks who speak their mind honestly. Let's debate!
Since Governor DeSantis enjoys a good debate, I’d be happy to debate him on property taxes. One stage. No scripts. Just the numbers, the assumptions, and the consequences.
@raylehmann@JeffreyBrandes I agree that it's superficially better than traditional property tax, but it still relies on the government to decide a value of a held asset and then take a percentage of that value. I'm not sure how that avoids corruption
@raylehmann@JeffreyBrandes Because the government is the one true owner of the land beneath our feet and we pay for the privilege of it being a limited access common element?
@global_diplomat Other than the Libertarian party, of course.
If anyone can deliver a more limited government, I am open ears to a smarter government.
The problem always seems to be a party says "weaken this, but strengthen that" part of the government and it all grows the entire time.
This interaction of well-intentioned, intelligent people demonstrates the futility of gov't control having positive results. There are lots of theories on how it will be good "this time" for gov't to tax/regulate, but then it isn't. Control & corruption. It's what we pay for
@JeffreyBrandes@Frank_Craft Are you proposing a system which would do away with Greenbelt protections? Land doesn’t move but developers do. We have lost a huge number of farms to development in North FL and the Panhandle. We used to be a significant source of food for the entire country.
BREAKING: Netanyahu directly rejects the Lebanon clause of the US-Iran agreement announced by Pakistan, telling Trump the IDF will not withdraw from Lebanon and that Israel does not consider itself bound by the clause, per Maariv.
Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.
We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.
With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony.

@raylehmann@JeffreyBrandes It's identical to a wealth tax but the asset is land instead of a portfolio. If you're okay with taxing soil, you must be okay with taxing other assets at current market value. An asset is an asset and an unrealized "value" is an unrealized "value"
