What was the best new game showing during Summer Game Fest 2026 Week -- the era formerly known as E3?
I asked a group of 20 well-known critics to decide... Control Resonant was voted king, alongside runner-up God of War Laufey.
@KahliefAdams Thanks for jumping in!
And yea squeaked out a branding feel through free asset remixing, fonts and obsessing over spacing lol. Appreciate the nod on that, since I know you work hard on that yourself. It’s always more eye-squinting than you plan on, haha.
What was the Best New Game Showing during 2026's big reveal week -- from Summer Games Fest to the official, trailer-packed showcases?
I asked 20 well-known critics and game industry veterans to rank their top 5 picks! What are yours?
I'll be back tomorrow with the winner and runner-up. (See the article for more info.)
@Stealth40k And just to be clear, not saying there doesn’t seem to be credibility to a new Ori existing. Several people seem quite confident.
It’s just really weird to have the co-creator loudly saying nothing is happening and that they even asked Microsoft about it, ha.
Yea, I see Jez said there may be a sequel - not sure if he also made it clear that's Ori. But then you have the Ori franchise's director/writer saying a sequel existing is nonsense.
He also is saying he asked Microsoft about it, and they've been actively trying to explore purchasing the Ori IP back.
Definitely a curious situation. Even if it wasn't a sequel "Ori 3" as a sort of semantic gotcha, he's also pretty much saying he's talking to MS and finds the rumor crazy.
The Duskbloods release date? Nintendo has squashed the “inaccurate” release date of Sept. 24, which The Guardian erroneously reported.
When then? I still maintain, December 4, 2026 could happen.
I wouldn’t rule out October, but From Software and Nintendo would presumably want at least a few months to tune the game based on the network tests.
@GernaderJake Hard to say, but have you tried changing the Xbox audio format out, making sure it’s not 5.1, set it to standard stereo PCM or whatever and match any settings you can?
This is why random people see IGN in my bio and hate me for little reason.
All we have left is the trust in the genuine authors. Nothing can slip through as a brand or it all becomes tarnished.
Having to respond to dumb ragebait is probably one of the worst parts of the job/fandom.
I saw that ridiculous clip and couldn’t believe anyone hit the like button. (But of course I could)
So you feel compelled to stand up for the obvious common sense of it all.
Meme or not, it’s like sensible gamers have to band together to put up dams against all the stupidity.
Worries of Tornadoes and severe weather is just life in the Midwest.
But, born and raised here, I can tell you I feel extreme uptick. I visit yearly after years away.
My Spidey Sense went off because despite T-storms today it remained humid and hot. And… midnight was met with a light lightning storm and constant growl. Like…constant cloud-to-cloud lightning.
20-minutes later the tornado warning hit with sirens blaring. In a way, I was surprised but also not. I felt it coming, my youth was exactly this. This is the first storm I recorded on my return.
I used to stand outside my Illinois driveway, skies green and ominous watching the black wall of clouds drop like waterfalls and black cotton candy — until the air got cold, rain fell, and storms passed.

@ReedTimmerUSA No tornado on cam, but I think this gives a good perspective of the many affected by the uptick in severe weather.
So many stand at their doorways, or (hopefully) awake in the night wondering if they should duck and cover in their basements or cellars.
