Estáis viendo una semana de anomalías térmicas en Europa. El efecto de la dorsal anticiclónica que se extiende por gran parte del suroeste va a dejar anomalias de temperatura positivas que, en algunos casos, alcanzan +15 °C. Lo llamativo de este episodio no es solo la magnitud, sino también cuánto dura en el tiempo. Lo que hace décadas eran pequeñas incursiones de calor primaveral de dos o tres días, ahora dura hasta dos semanas. Los extremos climáticos de hoy se mantienen en lo que yo llamo el modo "enganchado" durante días y días. Esta es quizá la señal más evidente del nuevo clima que nada tiene que ver con el de hace unas décadas.

I am prone to existential depression... My mind easily drifts towards thinking that in the grand scheme of things nothing we do really matters, so why bother doing anything at all?

But within this fear is a desire for some kind of external validation. I like this quote by Kubrick: "The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light."

It helps me reframe life from being outside-in to inside-out. Inside of you is a tiny candle and you are in control of it. Keep it alive and continue to expand that light. For yourself. That's all.

Yes, nothing matters. But also, nothing matters! You are free. You are free to take that inner candle anywhere you want. Its glow will naturally grow the things around you.

Starting today, the Obsidian Commercial license is optional. Anyone can use Obsidian for work, for free. If Obsidian benefits your organization, you can still purchase Commercial licenses to support development.

Nothing else is changing. No account required, no ads, no tracking, no strings attached. Your data remains fully in your control, stored locally in plain text Markdown files. All features are available to you for free without limits.

Why make this change? Simplicity. The Commercial license terms were confusing and added unnecessary complexity to our pricing. Furthermore, as the Obsidian Manifesto states: "we believe that everyone should have the tools to think clearly and organize ideas effectively". This change brings us closer to that principle.

People in over 10,000 organizations use Obsidian. Many work in high-security environments, like government, cybersecurity, and finance. Some of the largest organizations in the world, including Amazon and Google, have thousands of employees using Obsidian every day. These teams rely on Obsidian to think more effectively and keep total ownership over private data.

Previously, people at companies with two or more employees were required to purchase a Commercial license to use Obsidian for work. Choose optimism

Around the age of twenty-two I realized that my worldview had been deeply imbued with pessimism and cynicism. It was the culture I grew up in. A hostility to new ideas, to anything that strays from the norm. An assumption that if things can go wrong, they will go wrong — that malice is pervasive.

One day, I decided to become an optimist and life became much more fun.

The life of a pessimist is easy but dreary. The life of an optimist is hard but exciting. Pessimism is easy because it costs nothing. Optimism is hard because it must be constantly reaffirmed. In the face of a hostile, cynical world, it takes effort to show that positivity has merit.

To be an optimist, adopt these assumptions:

1. The future can be great
2. People’s intentions are mostly good
3. Ideas are fragile and need nurturing

Every new idea is an unrealized dream. Dreams are delicate and easy to destroy. When an idea presents itself, try to imagine the best version of it — what would make this idea great?

Pessimism and optimism share a trait: both are self-fulfilling. Your intention influences the outcome. Call it karma or, simply, effort. I would rather inhabit a future that has the possibility of being great.

Only optimists can create a great future. Only optimists can imagine it. Only optimists will put in the effort to make it. If you want to create a great future, believe it can happen. Choose optimism.
