Several months ago, our Council approved legislation with the aim of addressing the crime concerns in our community. However, it has become evident that the current strategies are ineffective. We must adopt novel, data-driven approaches, steering away from excessive policing.
D.C. has 54 more homicides year to date and nobody is outraged. You can't go out to a club, pump gas, or even go to school without the fear of being carjacked or killed! WE have to come together as a community to stop this surge.
Our young people deserve safety. It’s shattering. I wish with every fiber of my being there was a short cut to reduce & end violence. But there’s no shortcut. We have to attack the actual causes w/ as much urgency as we turn to suppression & incarceration. Only then will it end.
This is a good point -- how many women got sent to "meetings" at Falcicchio's condo to win a government contract, clinch a bid, etc. by bosses who knew what that entailed?
A thorough investigation could turn that up -- which might lead to additional fallout in private sector.
Join registered nurses working at George Washington University Hospital to stand up for fair treatment on the job, safe workplaces, and the right to join a union without management interference. The rally is Wednesday, June 28 at 4:00 pm at Washington Circle Park.
@JeffAndersonDC1 @ChmnMendelson@AnitaBondsDC@CM_McDuffie@BrianneKNadeau@chenderson That’s akin to deciding Brenda Donald should be able to hire outside counsel to do an investigation that involves Bowser’s senior staff. What type of result do you think that would get you? Something objective? Absolutely no way.
@JeffAndersonDC1 @ChmnMendelson@AnitaBondsDC@CM_McDuffie They’re all awful. The rest of the council is doing the right thing. I think though if we’re all being honest the OIG is absolutely not independent. The AG is elected and he’s barely independent. How can we say in good faith Bowser the Clown’s handpicked appointee is independent
BRUTAL BEATING IN DC: An assault victim is EXCLUSIVELY speaking with @fox5dc about the moment he was violently attacked along the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail near RFK Stadium. His wife is 8 months pregnant and now, he does not want to raise a child in the city due to feeling unsafe.

This is not simply a sex scandal, at its core it is about the abuse of power. And though John Falcicchio is the center, it involves DC’s biggest biz & real estate figures who tolerated, enabled & covered up/looked the other way on all this abuse.
Keep pushing @BrianneKNadeau!

If you want to know how @MayorBowser feels about domestic workers' rights- she responded to @CMLewisGeorgeW4 question about why she didn't fund the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights by saying- "You should fund your bill if it's a priority for you, council member." Cold and cruel.

@AlexKomaWCP what needs to happen following @RobertWhite_DC@CMRobertWhiteDC needs to have a housing subcommittee for DCHA that understands @HUDgov rules and regulations because there is too much money that will be going out of DCHA and low-income families will suffer @SecFudge
Activists have been frustrated for years with Anita Bonds' leadership of the housing committee. Now they've got a much friendlier face in Robert White at the helm.
He's pledging an "aggressive approach" to oversight, especially of DCHA. What comes next?
