The city has made historic progress in reducing gun violence in Baltimore. Many can claim credit- the Police Department, the Mayor, and the State’s Attorney have all played a pivotal role in lowering the murder and non-fatal shooting rates. None of them would say the job is done. The hard cold truth is that people who get guns to resolve conflicts will use them and often- innocent people in Baltimore will be killed. Criminals with gun histories deserve the highest degree of attention and proactive effort. These cases remind Mayor Scott, Commissioner Worley, and State’s Attorney Bates that much work remains.
If accurate, public reporting about the Cornell case underscores the critical need for all institutions to bring their leadership teams together, look each other in the eye, and ask tough questions about sexual violence. If you haven’t done that, or don’t, you’re very likely gambling with real-life consequences.
Organizations must always ask themselves this basic question: Are we lucky, or are we good?
Bringing in the right outside experts can help answer that question and offer fresh perspective, specialized experience, and the independence to challenge assumptions. Some will tell you what you want to hear - we tell you what you need to hear.
Never trust straight A’s or rows of zeros on an audit sheet. Small gaps can become major crises. I’m launching Universal Asset Protection to help organizations find the combustion points before they ignite.

@BaltimoreFire Was always a perfect partner and trusted friend- a gentleman who has served Baltimore well. He deserves our gratitude and well wishes for a long and happy retirement.
@DanielWWebster1@SafeStreetsBalt Safe Streets was/is one of the smartest investments Baltimore can make in the effort to reduce violent crime. The credibility that their team brings is a key element that no other spoke in the wheel of prevention has to offer.
@CentralDistPrez Well deserved. A true champion of the City and a terrific rep for the community. She has always talked straight and never suffered fools. Thank you Joyce for being such a great partner.
@justin_fenton Congratulations to Dep. Worley- he has earned this position. Dep. Briscoe is a very intelligent and capable leader and will continue to serve the BPD in a positive way. Let’s all wish them the best success- the people of Baltimore and the officers they lead are counting on them.
@ivanjbates Congratulations- a tough road ahead- Baltimore needs every good person it can muster. Good on you for stepping forward and trying to move the needle.
@DanRodricks Dan- I fully understand the complexities of this issue, I lived it for more than 30 years, you can not escape two competing factors, people have an inherent right to the privacy of their property, AND, the young people of Baltimore have very limited economic opportunity.
@justin_fenton Commissioner Harrison is not wrong on this particular point. If police can’t or aren’t proactive in removing violent offenders from the community- the community is doomed to suffer the violence they inflict. Leveraging minor offenses, in a strategic, deliberate way, is critical.
@justin_fenton@alton_griggs You are absolutely right to dig into this story and shed the proper light on something important. Very often people in surrounding jurisdictions believe their officers are above reproach but that’s simply not the case. There are bad apples in EVERY law enforcement agency.
@GBCorg A great champion for Baltimore. Frequently undervalued and often overlooked but always on the mission to move Baltimore forward. Thank you for your partnership and tireless effort. Enjoy the next chapter in your life.
Imagine if this actually did end the debate? If 25 years from now hockey scholars were like “I appreciate your argument, but in the end we must adhere to the certified results of the 2021 Bodog Twitter fav/rt poll…”
@BaltimorePolice A huge accomplishment- congratulations and good on the BPD for recognizing the dedication and sacrifice made by these officers and their families. Thank you for your service.
