She is the last person who should be explaining why a movie is weak & harmful to a franchise.
She is simply trying to establish that KOTCS is “the worst Indy” film so she can say, “Well, at least Dial of Destiny wasn’t CRYSTAL SKULL!”
The best she can do to preserve her legacy.
Kathleen Kennedy says Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford weren't fully bought into the idea of aliens in the fourth Indiana Jones movie, and that they "kind of got into a fight" with George Lucas over the premise.

Is this an official poster?
If so, this image is a lie that sets up expectations that will never be met.
Which, of course, would make Rian Johnson very happy.
This is a rare Kathleen Kennedy threefer:
1.) Kick Spielberg while he’s down with a lackluster film in theaters.
2.) Never stop kicking George Lucas and his ideas.
3.) And do your best to put Crystal Skull at the bottom of Indy rankings to protect HER contribution with Dial.
Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg clashed with George Lucas over "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
"They didn’t want to do a ‘Raiders’ movie that involved aliens, and they kind of got into a fight with George about it," producer Kathleen Kennedy recalls. "They were not 100 percent on board, which is why the movie, out of the four that Steven made, is the weakest."
George Lucas adds: “I wanted it to be kind of a ‘War of the Worlds’ sort of thing. Harrison said, ‘I’m not going to do another science-fiction movie.’ And Steven said, ‘I’m not going to do another science-fiction movie.’ I said, ‘Steven, this is perfect because it’s the 1950s, when flying saucers were a whole thing,’ but he said ‘no.’ We did about five scripts, and finally Steve and I compromised: ‘Look, what if they’re not aliens but from another dimension.'” (via Vulture)

If Superman had said, “They’re going to kill my mother,” the impact on Batman would have been the same.
And would been more natural.
The juvenile revelation that their moms are both named Martha as a storytelling device is the laughable part.
Everyone laughed at the Martha scene. Nobody stopped to realize Batman was one second away from k!lling Superman until he heard his d£ad mother’s name come out of a dy!ng man’s mouth. That’s not bad writing. That’s trauma. 😭
In a new interview, Kathleen Kennedy bluntly called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the weakest of the four Spielberg-directed Indy films.
“But Harrison and Steven were not 100 percent on board. That’s why the movie, out of the four that Steven made, is the weakest.”
She explained that Spielberg and Harrison Ford resisted George Lucas’s vision, especially the alien/crystal skull elements, and struggled with the project, even though they ultimately went along with it.
Happy 45th to Raiders of the Lost Ark — my favourite film of all time. Timeless adventure, John Williams' score, Indy's swagger and those practical effects still spark pure joy. Still watching, still thrilled. #RaidersoftheLostArk#FilmAnniversary
