While some are directly under NATO command, most "NATO bases" are national bases that host multinational NATO forces. US bases are ... US, which the US wants for reasons such as projecting power, logistics & communications.

You may not like Iran's political regime, but you must accept that they aren't doing badly at education, with fewer resources.

@SaltyGoat17 Think it through ... alliances are essential, including access to foreign territories as forward bases. Then, there's the economic impact. The USA makes a lot of money out of its allies & gets a lot of support when it needs it, if it's justified.
