#DRC #M23: The American legislator @RepRonnyJackson, who recently visited Kinshasa and Kigali, stated the following 👇

📌 "I sincerely believe that the government of Kinshasa has no way of controlling this region at the moment."

📌 "It neither has the resources nor the capacity to truly influence what is happening there."

📌 "We know that Uganda imports minerals from there. Rwanda does too. Burundi also. Everyone does, and nothing can stop them from doing so."

📌 "The M23, with or without Rwanda, is currently almost uncontested in the region. They do whatever they want, and the Congolese army doesn’t even respond. In fact, they flee from the M23 or, in some cases, lay down their arms and join them."

📌 "So I believe the Congolese government is in a difficult position."

📌 "I understand that some people in eastern DRC are not recognized as Congolese citizens, and perhaps that’s partly because it was Rwanda before the border redrawing many years ago. And, you know, it was part of Rwanda, but I would tell you that a large part of Uganda was also Rwanda. After the redrawing, which is now Uganda, those people were immediately assimilated and treated as Ugandan citizens. But that didn’t happen in the DRC, and I think that’s part of the problem."
