This is literally selling your voice just to be on the table. You canโt speak against corruption at this point when you have partaken the proceeds of the same corruption.

I respect & like him too Lance. He's my former Lecturer as well. His lectures & those of Prof Kempton Makamure & Madhuku were box office.
They were a cross between academic & political dispensary temples.
I have always considered him to be an eccentric theoretician. He seems allergic to political & social realism.
The fallout with Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC was inevitable.
That's because, Gwisai was increasingly resorting to bellicose discourse surrounding the land question steeped in Socialist Marxism & Lenninism at a time that ZANU PF had weaponised the land question for propaganda purposes.
Directly as a result of this, there appeared to be an uncomfortable convergence between what Gwisai was articulating & ZANU PF's political messaging - which the latter naturally amplified & exploited ruthlessly to widen the chasm.
Another bone of contention was that, Tsvangirai's MDC was a broad based all inclusive, pro-West social democratic movement which also drew support from white farmers.
While the MDC's position was for an orderly land reform programme to take place, Gwisai's position seemed to resonate more with ZANU PF's chaotic, violent & state sponsored land invasions.
Not that Gwisai expressly supported ZANU PF's policies. It was simply an inconvenient & uncomfortable convergence at a politically sensitive moment in the democratic struggle.
The language around the empowerment of the landless peasants / masses & the condemnation of the petty bourgeoisie / the middle class, of which there were many in the MDC simply made Gwisai's position untenable.
I was made to understand at the time that Gwisai was warned but he refused to compromise or change course.
He stuck at it like a dog with a bone & courageously refused to compromise his principles for the greater good of the party / movement.
His commitment to socialism & his ISO party is admirable & seems destined to last a lifetime.
In my humble view, it's that dogged commitment to it which has relegated him to a peripheral figure in our discourse as socialism is a dying ideology in our discourse, far removed from its mainstream influence during its heady days during the early 80s, in the immediate aftermath of independence.
For me, his defining legacy will be the intellectual theatres & dedication to defending the rights of vashandi.
He is not a natural fit for the hustle & bustle of political office & the horse trading that takes place there!
It was a real pleasure & honour to interact with him on a recent SAPES episode!
These posts have made me really sad. If I were a young voter this type of framing and communication might make me dejected & withdraw from political interest altogether.
If you hear these word: Buy {animal} from us, we build you the facilities for a fee and then we off-take from you after you produce and guarantee you market...

As young student leaders in Zimbabwe, we looked up to two particularly charismatic figures: the then University of Zimbabwe SRC President Arthur Mutambara (@amutambara) and his Secretary-General, Enock Chikweche, now known as Munyaradzi Gwisai (@GwisaiMunya)
They had blazed the trail years before many of us ever stepped into student leadership. We had never met them personally, but their reputation and influence were legendary.
Yesterday, I felt a deep sense of nostalgia watching Gwisai alongside fellow comrades launch Sungano yeVanhuโUbumbano Lomphakathi (The Peoples Coalition), which has since launched an operation to restore the Constitution.
I have immense respect for Gwisai because I know that, away from the cameras and without seeking recognition, he has quietly helped countless workers who were unfairly dismissed to reclaim their jobs.
Years ago, one of my closest friends lost his job. With not a cent to spare, Gwisai drafted all the necessary legal papers free of charge, and within weeks my friend had his job back.
If people started sharing testimonies of the many individuals Gwisai has helped without asking for anything in return, the stories would be remarkable.
Such was Gwisai's influence on me that when it came time to contest SRC elections at Harare Polytechnic in 1995, I was more drawn to the position of Secretary-General than that of President. My dear friend Pedzisai Ruhanya contested and won the presidency, while I was elected Secretary-General.
I have always believed it was a mistake for the then opposition MDC, under Morgan Tsvangirai, to expel Gwisai over an ideological disagreement on the land question. Any broad opposition movement is bound to bring together people with differing views. Healthy debate should strengthen, not weaken, such a movement.
Truly honest people are rare. Gwisai is one of the most sincere and principled individuals I have ever encountered. Whatever role history ultimately calls him to play, I have no doubt that Zimbabwe will benefit from his courage, integrity and unwavering commitment to justice.

One of these days, you will read about my death in the news. It won't be because I did anything wrong or unlawful, but because I finally found the courage to stand up and say 'no' to the decades of misrule we have endured under ZANU-PF
The people will win! Stand still, and you will see the salvation of the PEOPLE! This CAB you se, you will never see it again!
