No. There is no credible evidence that Rama Duwaji (wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani) is being paid as a spokesperson, “spokesmodel,” or in any formal paid public/City Hall role. 
She is an independent visual artist, illustrator, animator, and ceramist. Her professional work has included commissions for outlets and clients such as The New Yorker, The Washington Post, the BBC, Apple, Spotify, VICE, and the Tate Modern. Mayor Mamdani has repeatedly described her as “a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall.” She helped informally with campaign visuals/branding and digital elements behind the scenes but has no official paid government post. 
Recent joint tax filings for 2025 (released in 2026) show the couple’s combined pre-tax income was roughly $145,000. Nearly all of that came from Mamdani’s state Assembly salary (~$132,000) plus minor music royalties; Duwaji’s reported income from her art/graphic design work was about $8,860–$10,000 after expenses. 
The specific viral claim that she is receiving a $400,000 taxpayer-funded “official spokesmodel” salary tied to city-run/municipal grocery stores has no support in official documents, city announcements, credible reporting, or financial disclosures. It appears to be unsubstantiated social-media content. (The municipal grocery concept itself has been discussed as a policy idea, but not in connection with any paid role for her.) 
In short, available public records and reporting show she continues as an independent artist with modest earnings from that work and no paid spokesperson position.
