Access to safe AND affordable sanitation should not be a luxury!Kudos @FreeToFlow1, @Malsha_K, @advocatalk, Arka.
Duties imposed on 5 imported raw materials required for locally produced sanitary napkins have been waived. Accordingly, the price of a pack of 10 sanitary napkins produced locally will be reduced by Rs. 50-60 with these tax concessions, #freetoflow

“Noting that the Ministry of Education also has a responsibility with regard to the issue, Kumarasinghe said, however, that she would not forgo responsibility, and instead attempt her best to provide a solution to the issue at the earliest.”
“Newly appointed State Minister of Women’s Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe is scheduled to inform President Ranil Wickremesinghe about the difficulties faced by females, especially schoolchildren, due to the massive increase in the price of sanitary napkins” - The Morning
“I have spoken to the relevant officials and investigated this issue. This is a serious problem that should be addressed as soon as possible. Therefore, I am currently in the process of preparing a report, and I hope to hand it over to the President tomorrow.”
“.. more than 50% cannot afford them. Parents who often cannot afford to buy sanitary napkins for their school-going children do not send their children to school on days they are menstruating.”
What a crime!
