Grateful to the Center for Humanities and Digital Research and the Postcolonial Studies program at the University of Central Florida in Orlando for creating a space for thoughtful engagement around postcolonial studies and film. Conversations like these help deepen understanding and encourage meaningful, critical dialogue. It’s heartening to see Saffron Kingdom finding a place in academic discourse and becoming part of these conversations, and to see students engage so thoughtfully with its themes. 🙏🏽✊🏽🌞

“Every February, Kashmir remembers two names: Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru.”
Nearly three decades apart, both were taken to the same prison, the same gallows in Tihar, and both remain buried there. Their families were denied their bodies. Even mourning was treated as a threat.
This video reflects on why these names still return every year, not as legal cases, but as political killings, and what their stories reveal about power, justice, and memory in Kashmir. Please watch and share.
“This is not about glorifying death. It’s about refusing erasure. Because some names don’t disappear when you try to lock them away. They come back as questions. They come back as conscience. They come back as resistance.” Via @WKA_Kashmir

KASHMIR FILM UNDER ATTACK IN THE UK! @SaffronKingdom1
A coordinated disinformation campaign is being launched against Saffron Kingdom, a film that tells a deeply personal and historical story of Kashmir through lived experience. The film and its creators are being deliberately misrepresented, targeted, and falsely labeled in an attempt to silence artistic expression and intimidate audiences from engaging with the truth.
This is not about disagreement or differing opinions. This is about suppressing narratives that challenge state backed propaganda.
Despite these efforts, Saffron Kingdom will be screened in Birmingham because stories rooted in truth do not disappear under pressure.
We will not be silenced. We will not be erased. And we will continue to tell our stories.

In vainglory & desperate attempt to try to project a false image of normalcy, no matter what #rabbit holes of breach of norms #India has to go into, it will. Hosting #G20 in stolen land of #IOK was a crime. #China, #SA, #Türkiye & #Indonesia et al rejected!
Whatever it takes for #Modi & India to project a falsely polished image on world and home stage—-in desperate search for vainglory, no matter what #rabbit hole it has to go down & how far deep. #Indian leaders no shame!
Both Ifra & Shabnum discontinued their studies because they couldn't see despite undergoing multiple eye surgeries.
In 2016 alone. More than 1,100 people were partially or fully blinded in what was characterized by many as the "world's first mass blinding*

There are thousands of such stories where even children lost their vision permanently. The youngest pellet gun victim Hiba Nisar was 18 months old when Indian armed forces hit pellets into her right eye.

In occupied Kashmir, the extensive use of shotgun pellets by Indian forces on peaceful protesters has maimed and blinded thousands of men, women & children.
In the video, Ifra and Shabnum share their stories with us 👇🏽

Can the world not see the hypocrisy? Why would the indian occupation force schools to close and put occupied Kashmir on red alert if everything is normal? Is this what is meant to be “normal” ? 👇🏽

G20 member countries should demand that the Indian government end the repression of Kashmiris, release political prisoners, & open up Kashmir to the world as a starting point towards a resolution that respects the aspirations of the people. #nog20inkashmir#BoycottG20inKashmir
As the wave of arrests and detentions continue in many parts of Kashmir, India, on the other hand, is waging a 'beautification campaign' in an effort to present a more favourable image to foreign visitors.
India is hosting G20 meetings in Kashmir– an occupied territory subject to colonial domination & fascist repression. India continues to deny basic human & democratic rights to the Kashmiri people. 👇🏽
#nog20inkashmir#BoycottG20inKashmir#G20kashmir
The International community should take a stand against India’s decision to hold g20 meetings in Kashmir. India must be held accountable for their illegal occupation of Kashmiri land. 👇🏽#nog20inkashmir#boycottg20inkashmir#G20Kashmir
By hosting the G20 meeting in Kashmir, India is seeking international normalization of its settler-colonial project. This is a flagrant attempt to legitimize its occupation of the region and project a false image of normalcy. 👇🏽👇🏽
