Natalie Larrison, a friend of Syrian activist Mazen Al-Hamada, wrote this message in 2020, just days after Mazen was kidnapped by the Assad regime in Damascus.
“He was lured back to his torturers, believing the promise that he could save Syria, that he could save detainees.”
Today, the body of Syrian activist Mazen al-Hamada was found. He was tortured in 2012 before his release and departure from Syria. Mazen disappeared in 2020 after being coerced by the Syrian regime’s embassy in Berlin to return to Syria.
Over and over Mazen Alhummada told his painful story of the worst torture and how countless Syrians were still in Assad’s dungeons. The biggest news outlets, Congress, documentaries. The world knew. The complete inaction to help Syria broke him so he went to Damascus himself.
A family member of Mazen Alhummada spoke about his life and how the Assad regime lured him back to its torture dungeons.
“He showed us the evidence of the torture. They drilled screws into his feet. They did so many things to him.”
Mazen Al Hummada, 2 years before being re-taken by the Assad Regime, describes years of torture he had survived while in detainment to @JobyWarrick at the @washingtonpost who has since published the book “Red Lines”where his interview with Mazen is mentioned #SaveSyria#FreeSyria
