@SamaHoole There's a language problem here. "Saturated fat" is doubly unfortunate. Saturated in this context is understood by those who know some chemistry, but for most it has negative connotations, eg soaked with rainwater. And who wants to be fat? "Stable lipids" much better.
@SamaHoole This absolutely matches my own personal experience having eschewed seed oils for years in favour of animal fats. If I work outside topless in midday sunshine, or spend many hours running in the sun, as I have this year, all that happens is my skin goes a slightly browner tone.
@SamaHoole Interesting, but what about other electrolytes: potassium, magnesium, etc? Take them separately without sodium? Or is carnivore sufficient on its own? 75+ runner asking.
@SamaHoole Nibbling on a lamb chop a couple of weeks ago, I realised how perfect our incisors are for stripping meat (and fat) off the bone, leaving it perfectly clean. And then the tongue shoves it back to the molars for a good old liquidation.
@SamaHoole Of course, Atkins was preceded, by some years, by British doctors John Yudkin (This Slimming Business, 1958) and Richard Mackarness (Eat Fat and Grow Slim, 1958). I don't know if there were ever any correspondence between them.
Markets are not natural, spontaneous or free. They are legal, institutional and political creations of the state. Without law, money, regulation, wages, accounting standards and trust, markets collapse into monopoly, coercion and extraction.
In this New Year’s Day video, I explain why the neoliberal myth of “free markets” is not just wrong, but actively destructive — and why rebuilding the state, rethinking capital and restoring democratic accountability must define our economic direction for 2026.
Markets are tools. It's up to society to set their purpose.
