We’re leaving X. The platform’s growing alignment with fascist, racist, and sexist ideologies is incompatible with our values. Silence and normalization cause harm—and we won’t be part of it. We’ll continue our work in spaces that respect human dignity
Help us do a good deed and restore the wildlife pond for the Harmony Gardens community in Haringey.
If you can't donate, please share! We've raised £5000 already and just need £3500 to get this one over the line! ✊️https://t.co/xDRg862Gjo
Cyprus Environment Foundation now live - for Cypriots and Cyprus lovers who want to restore the extraordinary natural fabric of that amazing island. 🌳 https://t.co/asR7rt5U0a
In 2 days we'll be releasing a major report. 'Fantastic Freshwater: 50 landmark species for conservation' is the work of 70+ contributors from 21 IUCN SSC Specialist Groups and Red List Authorities to raise awareness of the wonders and threats to freshwater wildlife.
Stay tuned!
Shrimps play a vital role in ecosystems and society, being an important food item in both circles as well as providing a number of useful ecosystem services. Shrimp occur in freshwater on every continent, so take a second to appreciate your local hard-working shrimp friends 🦐
Pets, furry and finned, help us build relationships with animals. Aquariums allow nature - rarely observed by most - to exist in our homes, fostering appreciation for these ecosystems and their animals.

Our monograph on diversity, distribution and conservation of fish in the perialpine lakes of Europe is out. It is a synthesis of our work on 35 lakes between 2010 and 2020. https://t.co/L8WQq8z8wT
Reptiles and amphibians bridge the aquatic and terrestrial worlds, being indicators about the health of both. Sadly, as freshwater habitats disappear, so too do these remarkable creatures - often they’re among the first to struggle with major changes to their environments.
It’s World Mosquito Day, although we hardly need any reminders that they’re around. Larvae and adults are important food items for fishes, amphibians, birds, and reptiles, supporting the life cycles of thousands of freshwater species. Very few live long enough to become pests!
By pure chance, there was some quiet ambient music playing on my laptop while I watched this and it was a great fit! Lovely footage of the UK underwater.
#Rivercide goes live TONIGHT.
Our ecology team have been talking about little else the last few days. From the UK, USA, Cyprus, Brunei, Germany, France & Ireland we'll all be watching.

Are you ready? This from @_tomwall gives a good overview of what Team Rivercide is trying to achieve tonight 7pm BST. RT Livestreamed documentary Rivercide to unmask UK’s water polluters https://t.co/aCmC0snBJ0
I'm looking for some probably grey literature on the size of membership of conservation NGOs in countries around the world. E.g. I know UK based RSPB are huge, and WCS in the US. But has anyone collated this?
Finally we see a dialogue about the #conservation of riverine habitats in the mainstream! (no pun intended). To say we are looking forward to this would be an understatement.
#Freshwater ecosystems have been in need of a voice for a long time. Thank you, @charlottechurch
