In the heart of Ho, Volta Region, a dangerous human trafficking syndicate, is operating under the guise of travel and work opportunities.
This sophisticated crime ring preys on trust, utilizing recruiters who pose as successful friends living abroad. They lure victims with promises of high-paying jobs in Europe or North America, providing official documents that are nothing more than clever forgeries.
​To sell the lie, the recruiters go as far as sending money for local Ghanaian delicacies, creating a false sense of security and financial abundance. However, the dream turns into a nightmare upon arrival in Ho. Instead of an airport, victims are dumped in a secluded house, stripped of their freedom, and surrounded by others trapped in the same cycle. This is not a waiting period. It is a hostage situation disguised as recruitment.

​The syndicate uses brainwashing tactics, telling victims to wait for their turn to travel while effectively holding them in a state of kidnapping. There is a brave friend of mine who managed to escape and claw back 14,000 GHS of her 15,000 GHS investment. Her story is a rare exception. Most victims lose everything.

​The silence of those who escape like my friend did, driven by fear and direct threats, is what allows this syndicate to thrive. This is a call to vigilance. If a friend abroad invites you to a transit house in Ho rather than an international terminal, you are the target of a crime. We must expose these locations to protect the next person from falling into this trap.
