It is fortunate that we were on the scene when this horrific incident occurred - but know that this type of police violence happens regularly by KCPD without consequence.

Police Brutality at the hands of the @kcpolice: a thread.
On August 7th, 2022, while monitoring the scene of the most recent shooting by KCPD, members of the Kansas City Law Enforcement Accountability Project (KC LEAP) witnessed and filmed an act of excessive use of force 1/7
I need someone to explain to me why it’s legal for armed, masked men to threaten people who want to vote, but illegal for people to give voters water to drink.
Explain it to me like I’m in kindergarten.
Of course #KCPD was completely disinterested in investigating missing Black women. Too concerned with tarnishing the reputation of Black community leaders and news papers who don’t take them at their word; and why would we?
Kansas City police said reports of a possible serial killer targeting Black women in the area were “completely unfounded”
A month later, one escaped from torture and abuse in the man’s basement for a month & told investigators her friends “didn’t make it”

@Cricket_020 @NickMeansWell Excellent point re allowing 14, 16 yo to adopt. I bet most states wouldn’t even let a single 18 yo adopt. I’m using this argument; thank you!
Since learned @hasanminhaj was filming @netflix special that night & made jokes about incident causing further harm & monetizing #blackpain Dozens of Hasan’s fans applauded as a Black man was escorted out in cuffs. Are Black ppl even safe at his events? #laughingwhileblack
@AndrewDettmer@samuraihawk@hasanminhaj a black man was laughing loudly and enjoying the show and occasionally saying things like “yup!” or “that’s right” after jokes. a white woman in the row in front of him started shhhing him repeatedly and telling him to shut up. after she did it a handful of times… (cont)
@hasanminhaj So brother, respectfully stop claiming to be a champion of #BLM and #injustice bc you had a Black activist and one of the few Black people at your show arrested tonight for being too Black.
