Friendship Bridge was honored to attend @WorldDenver’s International Women’s Day 2026 event along with @GovofCO Jared Polis and so many others who care about #equality.
Since 1998, Friendship Bridge's work in Guatemala has allowed women to thrive in their home country so that they don't need to make the dangerous choice to migrate. This @elpaisinenglish article details what GT migrants are currently experiencing.

Thanks to her #agricultural loan and technical assistance, Juana has learned how to budget, earn more profit, and care for her crops. With her income from farming, Juana has been able to invest in her home and her children: "Thanks to God and Friendship Bridge, I am happy now.”
Then María Leticia and her husband made an even more ambitious decision: to purchase a piece of land, on which they planted beans. The achievement represented a major step forward for her family’s financial stability. Now, they dream of owning more land in the future.
From the Guatemalan community of Chicacao, María Leticia’s journey toward growth began during a Client Advisory Committee meeting—a group consisting of 85 elected clients across our branch offices, in which clients provided feedback on our programs and services.
At first, she set a goal to save $.13 USD per day, aiming to reach $910 USD to invest in a lemon crop. The process exceeded her expectations. Once she became aware of her earnings, she was able to save between $104 to $130 USD per week, reaching her goal ahead of schedule.

Our clients have no credit history, deeming them too risky for traditional banks. Our #microfinance model is based entirely on trust, allowing groups of women to borrow money together, in order to invest in their small businesses.

Wishing you a season overflowing with kindness, peace, and meaningful moments with those you love. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the difference you make in the lives of Guatemalan women. 💜
Our clients live in #rural communities where traditional banks do not lend, but this is where we see the greatest change: Single loans turn into healthier food, children at school, and thriving businesses. Will you help us continue to make an impact? https://t.co/9atOCLtYzA
To ensure clients don't become overindebted, we conduct a thorough credit analysis, visit each woman's business, and provide education on responsible borrowing.
#Microcredit and education need to coexist to #EmpowerWomen.
