🎉 NEW YEARS THREAD: 2018 was such an incredibly transformative year for students everywhere.
We showed the world what it means to organize for change.
Let's take a look back at what we did.
The El Paso shooter graduated from my high school in Texas.
Last year, we staged a walkout because we knew Parkland wasn't an isolated incident.
There is NO reason to think that gun violence won't affect you. We are all at the same risk.
Vote accordingly. #GunControlNow
It's been 20 years since #Columbine
On that day 12 students and 1 teacher were killed, leaving dozens of others injured. Although great progress has been made since then, we remember the survivors and the victims as we continure to fight for the kind of America they deserved.
Thousands of students walked out of school and are marching on the US Capitol to demand action on gun violence. Senate Leader McConnell must hold a vote on universal background checks. It's the least he could do. @moco4change#enoughisenough
1️⃣Young people turn out to vote
2️⃣ Lawmakers with the courage to stand up for gun reform win
3️⃣ Universal background checks begin the process of being passed into law
💪This is what democracy looks like.

🚨Big news from the House -- Universal Background Checks just passed out of committee and will head to the floor for a vote. We're one step closer to this becoming law.
Our organization was established not even a year ago - and although we have accomplished so much - the work has just begun.
105 people die from gun violence every day in America. Let’s save lives.
Text “BILL” to 954-954 to support bipartisan universal background checks. #HR8
This week #MarchForOurLives hosted a reception in our nation’s capital. The room was filled with victims and survivors of gun violence, organizers of all ages, and many members of Congress. [THREAD]
UPDATE: HR8, being introduced on Tuesday Universal-Background- Checks will change this.
This is major piece of legislation would not have had a chance of even being introduced without
-the millons of students that walked out
-millions that marched
-millions that VOTED
🧡🇺🇸
Together, we registered tens of thousands of voters. Together, we voted in historic numbers. Together, we elected a gun sense Congress. And together, we're going to get this bill passed. https://t.co/EWv5ZoGQgo
The 12 months of 2018:
-56,693 total incidents
-14,576 gun deaths
-28,131 gun injuries
-3,488 children & teenagers killed or injured
-340 mass shootings
-2,046 armed home invasions

@rystershort@hillaryrshah@mariana_h30@kundaivn We 👏 did 👏 that 👏 together.
And the best part is, we’re just getting started.
Here’s to the new year. The young people are winning, y'all.

@rystershort@hillaryrshah@mariana_h30@kundaivn When voting time came around, Texas saw some of the largest increases in voter turnout across the country, driven largely by enthusiasm in the suburbs — including right here in Collin County! #txlege
