@FrohlichLab@NeuroStimCtr I write about the neuroscience of being fully human: brain rhythms, mental health, embodiment, and what it actually takes to thrive.
Follow @FlavioFrohlich if that's the conversation you want more of.
@FrohlichLab@NeuroStimCtr You are not a processor running on meat.
You are a rhythmic, relational, embodied being whose brain evolved for connection, movement, and meaning ... not optimization!
Act accordingly.
We are more than biological LLMs.
AI processes tokens. You process life through a body that breathes, moves, aches, and desires.
We've built a culture that celebrates the brain and shames everything below the neck.
For many of us, this is a deep source of pain and confusion.

🧠🧵 THREAD: What acetylcholine & norepinephrine teach us about learning, growth, and change
This year, the @FrohlichLab turns 15. 🎉
Over that time, we’ve published 100+ papers on brain dynamics, neuromodulation, and neurotechnology.
In this thread, I want to offer something different:
👉 a fresh, unifying, and slightly provocative perspective, starting with our first paper
Here’s what we learned ↓
New in Brain Stimulation! @SteinAthena & colleagues introduce tECS - transcranial endogenous current stimulation, using personalized EEG-derived waveforms to target aperiodic brain activity. A novel approach in neuromodulation.

Fifteen years after demonstrating the power of low-amplitude endogenous electric fields on a neural network in a dish, I am excited to introduce tECS - fabulous work with star postdoc @SteinAthena in the @FrohlichLab@UNCPsychiatry - huge thank you to @BBRFoundation

We are excited to share these cool results from @GraceRoss98 's dissertation. Lots of implications for targeting networks of cognitive control with rhythmic brain stimulation. Make sure to follow @GraceRoss98 as she has more good stuff in the pipeline!
‼️Excited to share that our newest paper from the @FrohlichLab is now published!!
This paper includes results from my dissertation work, suggesting that frontoparietal theta synchrony is a promising therapeutic target for attention disorders.

Leading up to my 15 year anniversary at UNC next year, I decided to share with you our scientific journey from neuronal mechanisms to novel treatments in the @FrohlichLab
Inside the brain and ready to spark some new connections - come chat with me about brain network changes following #tACS treatment in #MDD at poster # F150 this afternoon at #SOBP2025!

Research Participants wanted! We’re recruiting for our study “Inter-brain Synchronization of the Therapist-Client Dyad in Psychotherapy: Pilot EEG Study in Students with Mild to Moderate Depression Symptoms” UNC IRB#: 22-1422, P.I: Flavio Frohlich, PhD. If you’re interested, please check out the flyer and complete the pre-screen to see if you’re eligible.
Excited to have three clinical trials for depression and anxiety in our @NeuroStimCtr@UNCPsychiatry currently enrolling participants. https://t.co/NGMlcw956X
It is happening right now - our very own @GraceRoss98 defending her PhD thesis. Awesome work with big translational implications for non-pharmacological treatments of attention challenges. @NeuroStimCtr
Thank you @MarkZylka Follow us over at @NeuroStimCtr to learn about upcoming clinical trials of non-invasive 🧠 stimulation. We will be posting updates and recruitment info. @UNCPsychiatry
For years, the @FrohlichLab has been developing and tweaking an innovative brain stimulation device that can help treat depression and anxiety.
Now, after clinical trials and support from the @FDA, the device is one step closer to patient use.
