๐ Indianapolis Indiana | Carmel High Schoolโs indoor facility is better than a number of NFL and Division I football facilities Iโve seen. Absolutely first class.
Load management during the season so your dudes are " fresh for the playoffs is key " remember these aren't college kids or pros yet with their body makeup.
Many H.S. coaches run pitchers 90-110 pitches every week all season.
Then playoff time comes and theyโre back out there every 4th day for 90-110 more.
Then theyโre shocked when the velo drops and the arm isnโt as sharp.
Pitchers donโt manage the pitching staff. Coaches do.

St Maryโs- 89.6 mph average beat number one overall seed
VCU- 89.4 mph average knocked off Tennessee
Washington State- 88.2 mph average was a P5 school until 2 minutes ago
UW Milwaukee- 90.2 mph 2-0 and in regional final
Little Rock- 90.1 mph beat USM and are 2-0 in the regional final
But hey, U Miami rolled a stable of 93-97mph arm out of the bullpen who couldnโt throw strikes and got absolutely blasted
This is why I teach what I teach
Velo isnโt everything
It gets you in the door but doesnโt guarantee success unless you are facing guys who canโt hit at the D1 level
Being able to drop a changeup for a strike in any count will get you better results that a flat 95
If you are 7-8mph (84 with sink) below the โhitting speedโ youโll get more outs than the guy throwing 92 when guys are geared up for it
Slow lefties kill fastball hunting lineups
All this plays in
What kills me is when a recruiting coordinator wonโt even look at a 89-91 guy because the metrics arenโt there, then they get torched by inconsistent outings from the flame throwing guys
Could go on and on about this
The guys who are 95+ for strikes used to be minor leaguers at this stage of their life - the rule changes are the reason these few guys are in college (still rare) nowadays
Need a strikeout? Nasty stuff and high velo sure thing
Need a quality start? Need a guy who can hit the broad side of a barn when he wants to
I think sometimes people forget everyone has a " guy on the mound " for game one in college now days with stuff!! No surprise on upsets..once again mid majors now a days can compete with anyone in the country! Now the question is depth..can they continue the run? Sec/Acc๐ฌ

@CoachSwit I think it depends...is the kid with a club that teaches the game correctly??, has quality practices, faces competition that challenges the kid, doesn't overuse arms, goes to the tournaments that the teams belongs in??if the answer is yes then the answer is yes! Game reps matter!
