A capsule streaks in from orbit and floats down under a parachute. Inside is medicine that was processed in space, in conditions no factory on Earth can copy.
For thirty years, making things in orbit was a promise that never arrived. In 2026 it changed, not with a miracle product but with unglamorous firsts: a re-entry license, a heatshield, a falling launch price, a drugmaker's cheque.
Varda has flown six small capsules since 2024, each a factory that returns to Earth. It won the first standing re-entry license ever granted, and a listed drugmaker just signed on to make pharma in orbit.
Why leave the planet? Gravity stirs every liquid, so crystals grow flawed. In free fall they grow slow, even and large, and crystal shape decides a drug's shelf life and how it is delivered.
The honest catch: nothing is on a shelf yet, and only very high-value drugs could justify the trip. But orbit is turning from a lab into a loading dock.

That is how the impossible usually starts, not with a single breakthrough, but with someone quietly turning a dream into a to-do list. The stars are still absurdly far away. For the first time, the road to them has a first step.

@prz_chojecki@prz_chojecki I dont totally agree on the doom part, a tool that one-shots old conjectures does not end math, it moves the value from solving to asking. The good questions were always the rare part, and choosing them is still very human.
