@biteback9 Yes. I prefer 'gay', but multiple incongruous meanings have been attached to that word. As someone who doesn't care about gender, a definition like "same-gender loving" isn't accurate. I'm a male who is sexually attracted to males. The corresponding word for that is 'homosexual'.
@glirebunny @EntrancedG Who's talking about gender? The topic was sexual attraction. In all my relationships (one-night to many-year), neither party has ever felt a gender disclosure to be relevant to have. In all cases, our sexes are both male and that's one of the first screening steps (of many).
@DuncanHenry78 Philosophically, it's impossible to prove a negative for empirical claims such as this. The burden of proof is on them, as they are asserting the positive claim.
@glirebunny @EntrancedG But none of those changes would make them male. A woman whose voice is lowered due to exposure to testosterone becomes a woman with a lower voice. Not a man.
@glirebunny @EntrancedG "I'm attracted to men" presumes 'men' to mean 'males', the traditional meaning of the word. Transmen aren't men in any material sense.
@manysuchcases I use the offending video to unfollow from too. I don't know if they can see which videos cause what sort of reaction.
There have been bigger names who've disappointingly capitulated over the years. But there's plenty of other accounts to follow in their place.
@manysuchcases Unless a gay porn actor has a history of posting bi porn (in which case, I wouldn't be a follower anyway), if they start posting scenes with FTM people, I unfollow. Probably a drop in the bucket, but it's a small way to push back.
@taylorkwinship@BraddockBessie "Gay" has historically meant same-sex attraction. Lumping disparate phenomenon such as so-called same-gender attraction under "gay" conflates definitions. We are forced to use "same sex attraction" to achieve specificity since "gay" has no longer has a unique meaning.
@GNQ__@VenerableHomo It's arguably not even JUST lawyers. Thousands of people over decades made this possible between litigation, volunteering, demonstrating, doing the heavy lifting of changing minds of friends & family. Not just the anecdotal colorful characters who jump in front of the odd parade.
@Tyranicus It implies a belief system about the described that is typically untrue. It implies that I identify as a man on a basis apart from my sex. That is not the case. I am a man because I am male. I don't merely identify as a man, and especially not due to social considerations.
@JoeGayHistorian@TheAdvocateMag Anyone can ID as queer if they want! Any mildly GNC aspect entitles you to the label "queer", irreproachable minority status, instant social cachet, and at long last a focal point for one's identity. AND you get to browbeat those who don't choose to ID as queer!
@TheVikingDane@Louiethelou They're great dogs, scarily intelligent. But you need to be involved with them constantly and keep them busy. Most families don't have the bandwidth to keep them constantly occupied and the dogs end up miserable or develop neuroticism. Not a dog that should be left alone all day.
@L__G__B Boys and girls don't 'feel' any consistent way. You've misled your child to a confining, regressive notion of what it means to be a boy or a girl. Their true self is open to an infinite range of possibilities within either maleness (boyhood) or femaleness (girlhood).
@TheVikingDane 50% of the world is immediately excluded from my dating pool. 80% of the men are too. Transmen are by definition a very, very small part of that first 50% because they are defined in terms of being part of that 50%. Sexuality is inherently exclusionary for the majority of people.
