Their main job is to legislate, not prosecute or sentence anyone to prison. Trump is arguing that he should be above the law.

A Senate conviction after an impeachment only removes the president from office, not prosecute or bring a criminal indictment. Congress is not a judicial body, only DOJ or states can charge.
