Crazy that the Tesla Model S will halt production after 14 years, still undefeated by the competition. I lost count of how many "Tesla killers" from the OEMs were talked up and faded away. The BMW i3, Mitsubishi i-miev, Jaguar i-pace, Porsche Panamera, Fisker Karma, Nissan Leaf, etc. All footnotes at best.

More recent cars like the Hyundai Kona approach the performance and utility of the original 2012 Model S, but the modern S is in another class entirely. Some of the recent BYD models come close, after 15 years of development.

I still remember seeing my first one in the wild, it was like looking through a time machine.
