@its_cho99 @edeh_ce @teddyg0tsauce@Gray_LoneWolf Yes, but the per square inch matters. Imagine you have two objects that are 10 pounds, if the area they take up is different, their PSI is different. In this case, the pounds per square inch are higher for the heel due to having a way lower area even with less lbs of pressure
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ I am not veiling the ability for corporations to shill more money behind hiring better people. My argument is very plain in nature - advocating for a system where the best of the best gets the job. If a native Indian, Chinese, Norwegian, African, etc is the best, they get hired
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ Can you pause for one second and read my posts? I am not justifying any current systems, but advocating for a system where meritocracy rules. I am advocating for a system that hires based on highest merit, that's it very plainly, and skill is measured by accomplishments
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ Well, if your argument is that Americans should be a protected group with prioritization for jobs even if there are more skilled individuals that aren't American, then you want to implement DEI policies. As a nation, we benefit from importing the best talent in the world.
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ "We need Americans ONLY" - A true meritocracy does not care about an individuals origin, that would be a DEI policy. There is no inclusion of demographics, color, gender, and this literally means being American or not won't matter. We need the best of the best ONLY
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ I think you are missing the point. We are advocating against DEI and want a system based on meritocracy. This means that jobs will seek out individuals of the highest skill, without placing priority on being American or any other group. The single factor would be their skill
@StreamingSeagu1@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ I agree it can only take you so far. If you do nothing to differentiate yourself above others, you meet the definition of normalcy and mediocracy. Education is a tool for success, not a ticket. Once you are equipped, it’s what you do with that equipment that makes the difference
@StreamingSeagu1@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ And they do not find work due to being mediocre. If they were that good at their field, they wouldn’t have much trouble finding a place to hire them. It’s very similar to CS students who preach and scream they cannot get a job, yet their portfolio is school projects
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ It would be DEI if we had a protected class of hires (Americans), whereas George argues that we should hire solely on meritocracy. You are arguing beyond the scope of his hiring techniques and those disagreeing with it.
@seraphinarose74@VN5809065017027@LokiJulianus Sorry to burst your bubble, but it means they were mediocre in their field. No one who has the skill set and expertise is left in that position. It’s the equivalent to CS students who do nothing outside of their classwork and expect to get a job.
@joekanyou@realGeorgeHotz@comma_ai@__tinygrad__ You are failing to see George’s perspective. He does not care whether they are American or not, he only cares about their high ability to perform. If it’s an American citizen then so be it, and if it’s a foreign immigrant, then that’s fine too. It’s about who’s better
@wildnorthman@nikicaga I want you to sit down and think really hard where that available information and knowledge has come from. Then think of what would happen to any of that future knowledge if academia didn’t exist
