Scientists have been warning that the intensity of storms in the Atlantic will increase impacts to coastal communities, not that the number of storms will go up. CO₂ has increased global leaf area and carbon uptake, but terrestrial ecosystems still hold roughly 24% less carbon than their potential stocks because of human land use — a ~344 billion-tonne carbon deficit. More leaves ≠ centuries of deforestation erased.
