What’s wrong with Ronald Acuna Jr.?
Acuna has not looked like himself in the 2026 campaign so far, so I thought I would check out the numbers.
We all know Acuna as one of the best 4-seam fastball hitters in all of baseball.
In 2025 Acuna against 4SFB
Run Value: 14
xSLUG: .627
xBA: .269
Hard Hit %: 59.7%
2026 so far
Run Value: -3
xSLUG: .156
xBA: .162
Hard Hit%: 38.5%
What I’m seeing from the video is Acuna isn’t firing his hips with that same violence we are use to seeing in his swing. That combined with a Weak% jump from an elite 1.7% to 4.5-5.2% and an increase in Under%. It appears there is just a slight hesitancy and drop in explosiveness is dropping the barrel rate. It really seems Acuna is just a tick behind and under the heater.
A big indicator of what I’m laying out here is what he is doing against sinkers and changeups. Although the damage on sinkers is still low as timing is an issue but swing path is lining up better as there is a super low Whiff rate.
Sinkers
AVG: .308
SLG: .385
Whiff%: 11.7%
Hard-hit%: 43.6%
Changeups
AVG: .350
SLG: .550
Whiff%: 30.3%
Hard-hit%: 46.7%
I expect Ronald to get back to form soon as he is a guy that thrives on explosiveness over pure mechanics. A tick off is better than a massive drop off in contact.
Who should I look at next?

Not so good yesterday, trying to find a good balance with laying the juice. Record looks great but units could improve

Cavalli line just seems low especially with how his K numbers have been recently
Degrom facing the cards who put the ball in play a ton and haven’t been striking out recently
Jax is kinda risky I just need to see him adjust more to pitching deeper into outings
Sheehan same as deGrom read
