🇧🇴 Bolivia's indigenous communities march on the capital as US-backed government prepares to suppress protests against neoliberal agenda

A massive march led by Bolivia's indigenous communities is set to arrive in La Paz today, on a collision course with security forces operating under orders to suppress demonstrations that have shaken the government of President Rodrigo Paz. Road blockades across the country have already triggered shortages of food, medicine, and fuel.

The protests are rooted in deep anger at Paz's neoliberal economic reforms — privatization of services, dismantling of the Plurinational State, and a new US-backed war on drugs — pushed through at the expense of the indigenous communities and social movements that brought him to power. The government has responded by labeling protesters "terrorists and delinquents" and signaling it will use force to suppress the march.
