It's also incredibly damaging to respond to a victim being honest with you about their experiences with "yes but" the person you know is not necessarily the person their significant other knows. Behind closed doors and all that.

Abuse is not one thing, it's not "he hit me" or "he told me I was a bitch everyday" it's a pattern of behaviour that can include a multitude of things and its up to the abused (and their therapist) to decide whether it was abuse.

Someone used a vile slur against travellers and Romani people in conversation w me yesterday. Its times like this I'm v aware of my privilege, I'm so lucky to be able to surround myself with people who dont use such horrible words so that when someone does it shocks me.

At 3:30 am this morning police battering rammed into my apartment with machine guns on me while in bed asleep. Handcuffed and not told what for for 15 mins. They were looking for another tenant with a warrant. I feel lucky to be alive but the trauma will last forever
