Cape Verde was a great story. Truly great. But 2 weeks after, football doesn't give a fuck, less so after 1, 2 or 4 years.

If Mauritius, Mozambique, Mali do the same, great, but for 99% of fans, 99% of the time, across the world, nobody cares.

If France, Italy, Germany, England, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal boycott a World Cup, it's automatically invalid. It's just the truth.

Likewise, a club World Cup without any of Europe's top 25 clubs is invalid. Nobody is watching Inter Miami v Boca Juniors except in markets that simply don't generate revenue or global interest.

UEFA should immediately take over global law making ( UEFA replace FIFA 4 votes in a new IFAB with the 4 home nations continuing holding the other 4 votes).

Europe has paid football's bills for 150 years. It does not need to vote for a man in an island of 100,000 to hold the game to random because FIFA are giving him 20 mil.

I'm half English, half Barbadian. One has paid its football dues, the other hasn't, so the other cannot and must not hold the balance of power.

When two thirds of football nations fill their stadiums, support grassroots football, create a pyramid, have women's teams, find kids, then their vote is equal to a European powerhouse.

Not a day before.

Time for UEFA to secede from FIFA

Had some good news yesterday.

My latest MRI scan was clear.

That’s 2 years, 9 months cancer free.

I don’t want to minimise how difficult it was at the start, or how hard the surgery and recovery were to endure.

But if you’re diagnosed with cancer it’s not necessarily the end of the world. I realise I’m lucky that I caught it when I did and that it was operable.

I paid a price for it, losing bladder, bowl and sexual function.

However, in time those things have come to feel very small 🤪.

What was once the single biggest issue in my life is something I sometimes forget happened.

If you’ve been diagnosed recently, there can be a way through it. And life on the other side of treatment/surgery isn’t always as terrible as you fear it’s going to be.

In fact, it can be better.

Argentina may not yet realise the lasting image they left behind after that final against Spain and it is difficult to see how they will ever repair it.

The footage of players and coaching staff physically confronting and attacking opponents on the pitch is deeply disturbing and impossible to excuse.

They did not just lose a World Cup final. They damaged the reputation of their football in front of the entire world.

Football will remember what Argentina did long after the result itself is forgotten.

Worth pointing out that Quansah’s “crime” is the same in FIFA terms as Folarin Balogun’s - serious foul play. Quansah’s one-game ban has been extended to two. Balogun’s was suspended for 12 months when Donald Trump made a phone call.

This is the City Barge pub in Chiswick right now. What do you notice? It’s 3pm and they’re open. It’s a sunny day. Yes, that’s right; they have had to remove all of the tables and chairs outside. They have had to destroy their own business. Why? Because Rick Rowe, a Green Party councillor on Hounslow council, who lives very, very, very close to this pub and complains about it almost daily, has banned all three pubs here on strand on the Green Chiswick, from having outside tables. I can only assume he hates pubs, hates business and hates the British way of life. This would usually be buzzing with people enjoying their afternoon. However, they’re the wrong sort of people for Rick.
