@AfricanHub_ It was one of the more horrific things I ever had to witness. Saddens me to this day and the region has yet to recover from this loss of this leader.
You know who had America right?
Not Lyndon Johnson, who lost white voters forever for the Democratic Party after passing voting rights and civil rights (I know... total coincidence).
Not Barack Obama, who didn't seem to realize that a Black man giving people health insurance was far more offensive than a white man trying to take it away.
It was FDR. He showed the political skill to give a nation in despair the help, benefits and programs it needed to create a super power from the deepest struggle. All he needed to do to get it passed, was exclude Black people from most of it.
That is Trump's America and maybe he understands it almost as well as FDR. America will accept unlimited gifts, favor and flattery for white people but will not be OK with equal (or gasp, *more*, even if owed) benefits given to Black people (even if just rhetorically). THAT is America.
So when people ask me what do Democrats stand for? Who are the Democrats for? It's for this (in my opinion/observation) - that we shouldn't abandon or leave people behind for progress. Was NAFTA an abandonment of this? Probably. But many people right and left enjoy their cheaper goods, will rail against NATO and then integrate Amazon shopping into their life despite how horrible that company is on labor and on small businesses because we will always choose convenience over conscience. But too often, America wants progress for some and views progress for all as "them" getting something. Progress or Racism seems to be the dance of America's post slavery society. And with Trump's re-election, the choice has once again been made poorly.
