Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to suddenly embark on a 3-week vacation to Europe, has sparked fresh controversy, with top Allies of United States of America, USA, President, Donald J. Reacting to the trip, Dr. Karl Von Batten, a Senior Government Advisor and Consultant based in Washington DC, USA, stated in a tweet on Sunday afternoon, that the timing of Tinubu's absence from Nigeria, raises questions amid renewed calls for the release of USA records allegedly linked to the Nigerian President.

"Amid Growing Heroin Allegations, Tinubu Runs to His Friends in Europe", he wrote on X.

Dr. Batten further argued that perceptions across Africa, the Middle East and South America, are shaping how Nigerians view the Presidency.

His words: "A long-held view across Africa, the Middle East, and South America, is that Western powers install or protect puppet Leaders to control countries and their resources. Many Nigerians now believe Bola Tinubu @officialABAT is such a puppet and that the hidden records concerning alleged heroin trafficking are the strings."

Recall, that the Presidency announced on Sunday, that Tinubu departed Abuja for London, United Kingdom, UK, as part of his annual leave, and will be away for three weeks.

The Special Adviser on Information to the President, Bayo Onanuga, said that Bola Tinubu would return to "join the hectic Campaign for the January 2027 election".

Dr. Batten however, stated that the secrecy around the US Court documents is deepening mistrust.

He said: "We may never know whether Bola Tinubu has ever traded Nigerian secrets or resources in exchange for protection, but many Nigerians see the past @JoeBiden DOJ’s efforts to keep these records hidden as further proof that Western powers are protecting BolaTinubu. Whether that belief is right or wrong, the secrecy is feeding it."

The records in question relate to an ongoing FOIA case in the US, seeking the release of Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency, DEA, documents. The case has been cited repeatedly by opposition figures in the last one month, as evidence that Nigerians deserve transparency.

"The longer the records remain hidden, the stronger the belief becomes that foreign powers have something they can hold over Nigeria’s Ruler. This mistrust will remain regardless of the outcome of the @FBI and @DEAHQ FOIA case", Dr. Batten added.

He also warned that the 2027 Presidential election must not be compromised, saying that, anything short of transparency could push Nigeria towards the path of other West African States that have experienced Military takeovers.

"This is why Western powers must ensure that Nigeria’s upcoming Presidential election is free and fair. Anything else heightens the risk of Nigeria going the way of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger", Dr. Batten warned.

MY ADDRESS TO MARK THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE 2027 PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CAMPAIGNS

Dear Compatriots,
Members of the Press,

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,

Wednesday, 19 August 2026, marked the official start of the campaign period for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

There is no doubt that this is a defining moment for our democracy. This moment gives Nigerians the opportunity to assess the records, ideas, and plans of those seeking their mandate to lead their country at a time of grave uncertainty in our rapidly changing world.

I consider myself quite privileged to be one of those seeking your mandate to deal with these challenges facing our country.

I enter this contest with one firm conviction: Nigeria can work, and Nigeria must work.

Nigeria faces several serious challenges. Some of them are indeed of existential proportions.

According to the IMF, 63%, or over 140 million Nigerians, live at or below the national poverty line, while humanitarian agencies estimate that 35 million people will need food assistance during the 2026 lean season. About 3.6 million Nigerians remain internally displaced, largely because of conflict and insecurity. Each year, millions of young people enter the labour market, yet too many struggle to find productive opportunities. Weak infrastructure, unreliable power, insecurity, and the excessive cost of doing business continue to burden households and constrain enterprise.

These are more than statistics. They reflect the daily realities of Nigerian families, farmers, workers, students, and businesses.

Yet I do not believe Nigeria lacks the ability to overcome these challenges. We have the people, resources, market, talent, and enterprise. What we must do now is turn these strengths into security, productivity, and shared prosperity.

LEADERSHIP MUST DELIVER RESULTS

My successful private-sector experience, studies in institutions of repute on policy and business matters, and my service as Governor of Anambra State have shaped my understanding of public leadership. Government must manage resources responsibly, set clear priorities, and measure the outcomes of its decisions. Public office is not a reward; it is a responsibility to the people.

In Anambra, I prioritised the foundations of long-term development: education, healthcare, infrastructure, fiscal discipline, and institutional capacity. I do not present that record as perfect, but as an experience from which Nigerians can draw their own conclusions.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso brings a different but complementary governing experience.

As Governor of Kano State, he focused strongly on education, technical training, scholarships, infrastructure, and human-capital development. His administration’s investments in education and skills showed an understanding that the people are a state’s most important long-term resource.

Our experiences are different, but our conclusion is the same: Nigeria must invest in its people and manage public resources with discipline.

BUILDING AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS

Nigeria needs more than reactive reforms. We must focus on the questions that matter:

Are Nigerians better off than they were four years ago? Can they afford food, education, and healthcare? Can businesses produce, expand, and create jobs? Can young people find productive work? Can farmers work safely and get their produce to market?

AN OPEN LETTER TO KASH PATEL, DIRECTOR OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

Letters from Stockholm

Dear Director Patel,

I write to you as a Nigerian of the diaspora, a Swedish citizen, and the founder of Worldview International, on behalf of millions of Nigerians at home and abroad who have watched your Bureau's conduct before Judge Beryl Howell with growing disbelief.

On August 20, 2026, your agency filed a motion asking the United States District Court for the District of Columbia for permission to explain, in secret, ex parte and in camera, why it continues to withhold records concerning Bola Ahmed Tinubu, records dating to 1992 and 1993, records connected to a Chicago heroin trafficking investigation, records a federal judge ordered you to process more than a year ago. You claim their release could endanger lives and reveal law enforcement techniques. Techniques from 1993, Director. Thirty-three years old. The rotary telephone was still in service.

So permit me to ask you the question every Nigerian is asking.

Why is Bola Tinubu's file more sacred to your Bureau than the Epstein files?

Your administration promised the American people transparency on Jeffrey Epstein, files in which your own President's name has reportedly appeared, alongside the names of some of the most powerful men in the Western world. That promise collapsed into memos, redactions and retreat. And yet here you are, three years into Greenspan v. Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, deploying the full machinery of the Department of Justice, extension after extension, Glomar responses that Judge Howell ruled improper, sealed declarations, secret submissions, all to shield the file of a foreign head of state who, in 1993, forfeited 460,000 US dollars to your government in a civil action alleging the funds were proceeds of heroin trafficking.

He was never charged, you will say. Correct. He simply handed over the money and walked away. Innocent men do not ordinarily pay the United States Treasury nearly half a million dollars to make questions disappear. And your Bureau's conduct since, producing not a single processed page despite a court order, despite your own promised timetables of January, March and June of this year, despite the open irritation of a federal judge who noted this case has been pending for over three years, tells its own story.

Why is this man so important to your agency, Director?

What service has Bola Tinubu rendered the United States that earns him protection your own citizens cannot obtain about their own government? Was he a source? An asset? A cooperator? If so, say it. If not, release the file. The Freedom of Information Act does not contain an exemption for the embarrassment of foreign presidents.

Let me tell you what your lawyers in Washington may not have explained to you. Nigerians are not fools. We are among the most educated diasporas in the United States, your own census data confirms it. We read court filings. We know what a Glomar response is. We know what ex parte means. We watched Judge Howell rule in April 2025 that your refusal to confirm the existence of records was, in her words, neither logical nor plausible, because your agencies had already acknowledged that Tinubu was a subject of investigation. Playing games with our intelligence will not work.

And understand this clearly. You may have leverage over one man. You do not have leverage over 230 million Nigerians. Nigeria is Africa's largest democracy, a trading partner worth billions of dollars annually to American business, the anchor of West Africa. Bola Tinubu will leave office, whether in 2027 or before. The government that follows him, and the generation that elects it, will remember precisely who shielded him, and why. A partnership built on the concealment of one man's past is not a partnership with Nigeria. It is a partnership against her.

There are also questions this file may finally settle that go to the heart of our 2027 presidential election. Questions about identity, about credentials, about a biography that has never withstood scrutiny, questions currently before Nigeria's own Federal High Court in the Atiku Abubakar suit over his eligibility. Nigerian voters have a right to the truth before they vote, not after.

Director Patel, you built your public reputation denouncing the deep state, secret files, and two-tiered justice. You wrote a book about government gangsters. Here is your test. The box is already open. The dots are already connected. Every day of delay, every sealed declaration, every extension request is itself an answer, because no agency fights this hard, this long, to conceal a clean record.

Release the Tinubu files. All of them. Let Nigerians judge for themselves.

History is watching you, and so are we.

Peter Obi is saying he may not even be alive to contest the nation, given the way the government is frustrating everything he does for a living.

At the airport, where cars were parked, only his own was singled out and locked up.
