I have decided not to play in Istanbul this October.
I was so looking forward to playing for you, but unfortunately, this is not the right time.
I dream of playing for you as soon as possible.
I stand by you. In Peace and Love❤️
If this data is any indication, cost of living is the runaway issue in Ontario right now. Almost four in ten respondents (39%) say they’ll vote for whichever party can keep everyday expenses under control, which suggests that rising grocery bills and housing costs are front and centre in people’s minds.
Right now, Ontarians are essentially telling parties to talk more about affordability.
Interestingly, the second-most cited reason at 20% is which party will best handle the “Donald Trump impact.” For many voters, handling Trump isn’t about the man himself— it’s about mitigating potential fallout for Ontario jobs and industries.
Meanwhile, tied for third place are two classic issues: managing the provincial economy and improving the healthcare system, each at 15%. While the PCs have a sizable lead on economic management, healthcare seems more competitive, with Liberals narrowly outpacing the others.
This sets up an interesting dynamic: if the public conversation pivots to hospital wait times, staffing shortages, and elder care, the Liberals might gain some traction. But if the spotlight stays on economic concerns, the PCs may retain the upper hand.
Bottom line:
On four of these six possible ballot questions, the PCs are well ahead. If the election is about the economy, affordability, or Trump's impact, expect the PCs to win.
If it's about healthcare, it could be a very different outcome.
Lessons from my polling and focus groups:
Instead of “growth” say “bigger paycheques and more jobs”
Instead of “competitiveness” say “cost of making things”
Instead of “trade” say “buying and selling with other countries”
Instead of “profitability” say “affordability”
Instead of “me” say “Canadian workers and consumers”
The idea is to keep language grounded in everyday concerns—wages, costs, affordability—so it resonates more with ordinary people rather than sounding like abstract economic jargon.

Starting today, Istanbul embarks on a new journey toward unity, leaving behind years of division. Political rhetoric that once divided us will be replaced by respect and affection.
Our commitment to democracy, deeply held in our hearts, is now fully expressed. From Saraçhane Square to every street and corner of our city, democracy will flourish. The youth, women, workers, and retirees of Istanbul, representing every shade of our vibrant community, will stand up for their rights with newfound courage. Istanbul belongs to every one of its citizens, without exception.
With the dawn of a new day, Istanbul and Turkey will bloom like never before, signaling a renaissance of democracy. This flame of democracy, igniting today, will light our way, warm our hearts, and crown Istanbul as a beacon of peace, equality, prosperity, and harmony.

Today marks a pivotal moment not just for #Istanbul, but for #democracy itself. As we celebrate our victory, we send a resounding message to the world: the decline of democracy ends now. Istanbul stands as a beacon of hope, a testament to the resilience of democratic values in the face of rising authoritarianism.
Our triumph echoes the spirit of our Republic's founding by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, inspiring those under oppressive regimes with a vision of freedom and equality.
Istanbulites, we are not just citizens of this historic city; we are guardians of democracy, leading the way for nations worldwide.

The scary math behind the world’s safest assets: Washington has laid the seeds of a crisis that Wall Street can no longer ignore. Around three-quarters of Treasurys must be rolled over within 5yrs. Say you added just 1ppt to the avg interest rate in the CBO’s forecast and kept every other number unchanged. That would result in an additional $3.5tn in federal debt by 2033. The govt’s annual interest bill alone would then be ~$2tn. For perspective, individual income taxes are set to bring in only $2.5tn this year. https://t.co/coHFvIAIYK
Today I joined a roundtable with students and faculty in the @RiddellMPM program at @Carleton_U on the importance of practical learning.
Followed by a meeting with President Bacon and a tour of the beautiful campus.
Another successful day in Canada’s Capital!🇨🇦
This is it. The day billed as the most consequential election in Turkish history.
It's not hyperbole: voters today have a choice between two very stark visions of how they should be governed not just for the next five years, but the next generation.
A quick🧵on where we are.

- Turkey’s political playing field is massively tilted in favor of Erdogan.
- The state lavishes funds on his supporters, and the country’s media is slavishly pro-government.
- Erdogan’s government has systematically taken over ostensibly independent institutions, including courts and the body that controls elections.
- Nongovernmental organizations face severe government investigation and scrutiny, limiting their ability to operate.
- We need a new vocabulary to describe this phenomenon. Are such elections free? Technically, yes — but they are also profoundly unfair.
In running an fast and tough messaging strategy now the CHP is flipping the AKP strategy of seizing control of the narrative early in the election evening on its head
