Akizungumza mbele ya Waziri Mkuu Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba katika mkutano na Watanzania London Uingereza, Fernandes amesema licha ya kuwa Mtanzania anayejivunia Nchi yake, amekuwa akikumbana na changamoto zinazohusiana na hati ya kusafiria ( passport) katika safari zake za kibiashara za Kimataifa, hali ambayo amesema inaweza kuwa kikwazo kwa Watanzania wanaotafuta fursa nje ya Nchi.

Fernandes ameeleza kuwa kupitia biashara yake amefanikiwa kupata uwekezaji wa zaidi ya dola milioni 50 kutoka Marekani lakini kwa sasa anapata wakati mgumu kwenye biashara yake kwakuwa kuna zuio la Watu wenye passport za Tanzania kuingia Marekani kwa visa za B1 au B2.

What if a sugar processor could see its next harvest before a single truck reached the factory?

Which estate blocks have been planted. Which are awaiting soil tests. Which are showing signs of stress. When each block is expected to be harvested—and how many tonnes it could deliver.

Then, beside every block, the processor could see the outgrower groups growing the same crop for the same harvest window: how many farmers, how many hectares, what volume is expected, and where support is needed now.

For years, I feared that plantations would grow while smallholder farmers were left behind. Managing thousands of individual small farms seemed too costly and complex.

I no longer believe exclusion is inevitable.

@MazaoHub’s Commercial & Outgrowers system is ready, and a few plantations have begun testing and using it. Thank you to those early users for bringing this vision into real fields.

The system connects mapped blocks and farmer plots with crop plans, soil and weather data, satellite observations, input advances and geotagged field activities. AI can compare what was planned with what is happening—and flag where an agronomist needs to act.

At harvest, that record continues through collection, weighing, grading and quality checks. If a farmer received inputs but the delivered volume differs sharply from the forecast, the system can flag the gap for investigation, including a possible side-selling risk. A signal starts a field investigation; it does not replace one.

Now imagine coordinating an estate alongside 100,000 outgrowers(smallholder farmers) with this level of visibility and human support under franchise farm clinics. Remember, we are Tech and Touch.

I cannot stop thinking about what that could mean for the smallholder farmers I once feared would be excluded.
