UofG is 570 years old today! 🎉
Did you know the Papal Bull is the instrument which founded the University. It was issued by Pope Nicholas V on 7 January 1451 but the original Bull was lost in the mid-sixteenth century!

@craigscrolls An absolute travesty. So much of Glasgow's old city centre around High Street and Trongate was lost, and the old campus right at the heart of it all.
An evocative look up Queen St towards the station, late c19th. What's going on on the 2nd floor of the British Linen Bank on the right? 🤔

With Glasgow Uni today celebrating its 570th birthday, here's how it marked its 500th bash, back in 1951, with five wartime searchlights beaming into the night sky.

@barrygla He did a few of the docks, he certainly did like the industrial scenes, so Glasgow may have been a good spot for him. Love that this one captures a different side of the city, though
One that I saw once online and struggled to find again. Italian Piero San Salvadore's "Trongate at Glasgow Cross". I love the impressionist style and the colours here, and the electric trams with crowds of people. I can't wait to see the same amount of life in town again
Some of my favourite paintings of Glasgow scenes. Starting off with Avril Paton's "Windows in the West" showing a blonde tenement building in the west end and various intricate scenes of everyday life. Particularly appeals to me in the current lockdown as we're all stuck indoors
"The Tollbooth, Glasgow" by L.S. Lowry. He too was famous for urban scenes and scenes of industry. Famous too for his "matchstick men", I love how their long, slender figures match up with the lonely Tollbooth steeple at the Cross
Not an arty shot this time, just a wee slice of Partick life, the Deoch an Dorus pub with the Uni peeking up to the left. Note the frozen street. I am no chicken and in this weather paved surfaces become powerful arse magnets for yours truly. Def the last of the day.
