Hi! I'm Nicola, a @LiberEroFellows postdoc at @UBCoceans and incoming Assistant Professor @Concordia in May 2023. I study the interactions between climate change and marine invasive species, particularly in coral reef ecosystems. #BIMSWeek#BIMSRollCall
Huge congratulations to our Distinguished Landscape Ecologist (2011) Lenore Fahrig, who has been awarded Canada's top science prize, the #HerzbergMedal Dr. Fahrig is a well-known #LandscapeEcologist@Carleton_U who does research work at @GLELCarleton 🇨🇦
CALL FOR EVIDENCE! We are conducting a review on the use of navigation locks by fishes and their function as a connectivity pathway - if you have evidence to share, please do!
Please retweet and/or contact me or @Lou5er - we appreciate any input and info. :) @SJC_fishy
Feeling very grateful to have had all these wonderful people at our VOI workshop at #uq last week. We had a very productive three days and more importantly made some great new connections! @CarletonScience#Ecology#conservation
For the first time ever, I am hiring!!! Looking forward to working together with a student to model and map current and future invasive plant risk across Canada. Please share widely! 🌱🌷🌿
Why are phalarope chicks stripy while most other shorebird chicks are spotted? Perhaps to help them blend into the sedges coming out of the water - phalarope chicks swim from day 1. Striped or spotted, they're both adorable! #PhalaropePhriday#BirdTwitter *handled with permits

🚨Calling all *Canadian* students! I'm in need of someone who is keen on birds, making life better for people in the city, ecology, social justice, and/or data. Come work with us @CarletonScience! #birds#urbanecology#DataScience 🚨
I am on the hunt for colourful, action-packed, behind-the-scenes profiles of scientific research for @HakaiMagazine. Stories should, ideally, be about projects currently undergoing field research. Pieces will be ~800 words, paid at CAN $1.10/word 🧵
I'll be giving a talk at UQ this Tuesday at 11am Brisbane time. Please feel free to join us on zoom! I will be giving an overview of my PhD work completed over the past few years at @CarletonScience with @Joe_Ecology#phdchat#AcademicTwitter
I'll be at #ESA2022 in Montreal next week. If anyone wants to chat about conservation planning, spatial prioritization, #prioritizr, value of information, or applying optimization techniques to inform conservation decisions - send me an email!
New paper out from GLEL and folks from @uOttawa: The risks and rewards of community science for threatened species monitoring. In it, we describe how #CitizenScience (or #CommunityScience) can be used to improve threatened species monitoring, with caution. https://t.co/ncrfm74b9f
Protecting habitat for all threatened species in #Ontario will be way too expensive, unless we partner with Indigenous and other landowners. Central & Eastern Ontario are best spots to locate new protected areas. https://t.co/f6yEzG6IOU
We are now accepting applications for the Liber Ero Fellowship Program! The program supports post-doctoral fellows who address pressing conservation challenges of relevance to Canada. Application deadline is November 1, 2022. See https://t.co/w55a5f4kYb for more details.
We just finished a major analysis on the effects of land use on ~ 290 butterfly spp. in Italy: (i) land use effects persist from local to regional scales, (ii) small butterflies and butterflies with short flight curves consistently suffer from agriculture and urbanization.
