July 25th is #WorldDrowningPreventionDay!
@UNICEF is working with partners, governments, communities, within schools and alongside adolescents & youth, to prevent drowning via the 3 S's:
Safe Places
Safe Journeys
Safety Skills
Anyone can drown, no one should!
#EndChildInjury
Tmrw, 25 July, is World #DrowningPrevention Day.
This #UN designated day, now in it's 4th yr, is a moment of global unity & international action to raise the profile of the issue & amplify awareness of preventative actions we can ALL take to reduce this loss of life & #injury
Drowning is a leading killer with > 50% of 236,000 drowning deaths among people under 30 years. Join @WHO & partners on 30 July to mark World #DrowningPrevention Day & contribute to the campaign to highlight how seconds can save a life. https://t.co/DYC7MBM0VS
@ #WHA77 there's been a strong focus on #climatechange & #health. Clear agreement for scaled action in new @WHO GPW & adoption of a new resolution https://t.co/6TbcX83Q1y
Scaled action can't be fast enough. #CycloneRemal in #Bangladesh, record heat in #India examples of reality.
The cyclone's trail of disaster is only starting to come out and it is not pretty.
An estimated 35,000 houses along the coastal belt have been fully destroyed, and 115,000 houses have been partially damaged.
2 million people in direct path of #CycloneRemal, inc half a million in makeshift houses. 900,000 already in cyclone shelters. Forecasters predicting 48 hours of heavy rain. Tidal surges have already broken embankments and flooded 30 villages. 14,000 BRAC staff on the ground.
An excellent example of why the Float To Live safety messaging is vital and can prove the difference between life and death, even for the most experienced swimmers.
If you get into trouble at the coast or in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
#FloatToLive
