I absolutely adored writing for Oceanbites! It made me a much more articulate writer (for academia or outreach) and allowed me a space to play with making science approachable. I highly recommend it to all grad students!!
Interested in science communication and ocean science? Oceanbites is starting our annual call for new authors! Send us a sample blog by March 17th to be considered. Find out more information here: https://t.co/yuzZEUh8xe
Hb874 passed its first hearing today! We are one step closer to finally being recognized as public workers and having our union! Please continue to show up and submit testimony at our next hearing!

For years our bosses, politicians and state officials have tried to argue that we aren’t employees but “student help”. The Supreme Court reacted exactly how we react to it, to laugh at it as a ridiculous and anti-worker suggestion. All workers deserve union rights! ✊🏾✊🏾
@C10H18N4O6 @adi_gajigan I agree with this! I haven’t had issues using expired reagents after testing. The only thing I have noticed to act stochastically is qubit DNA quantifying kits.

Text might be the most neglected part of #dataviz. We talk a lot about how the right chart type and colors can improve visualizations – but not enough about how to use words well.
So I wrote about that in my latest article: https://t.co/Ao1HhBNZ95
@uhmanoa calls itself a “Hawaiian place of learning”, but does little to honor this notion. Naming buildings is a small act the university could do to show their values. See petition in RT
Do you remember the gorgeous sea cucumber known as #gummysquirrel [𝘗𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘺𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘢 (Clark, 1920)] ? I have created a crochet pattern for all those sea cucumber fans like myself 😍. And yes, it has 18 mouth tentacles!! #TaxonomyTuesday
Talking about transition to “clean energy” without talking about the enviromental impacts mining creates is green washing. We cannot just transition; we need to reduce consumption and figure out ways to protect & repair our ecosystems too.
@thefishbotherer oooh! Nice find. Sounds like it's in open review, which is pretty neat. I can give the non-expert take on readability and comprehension haha
Can anyone recommend an #ecology#statistics textbook? I haven't meaningfully done stats in SOOOO long, and I'm hoping that a review would be richer than reading individual papers as I transition to data analysis for my Ph.D.
@DeepSeaEllenP Thanks for this resource! I have presence/absence biodiversity data and environmental data. Trying to explore community change over space and time and associated drivers.
