Our glacial lake at Nedre Demmevatnet rapidly drained, releasing 1M+ cubic meters in 7 hours! Thanks to our webcams, we captured it in real-time. Unusual warm weather caused early drainage this June. Awaiting data from loggers and timelapse cams. #glacier #glof #geosciences

Here we go again! The team is heading to Rembesdalskåka to re-establish the webcam, time-lapse camera, weather station and level loggers. The aim is to monitor the glacier dammed lake Demmevatnet.

The water in Nedre Demmevatnet dammed by Rembesdalskåka in Hardangerjøkulen has drained only a few days after it was filled up on the night between the 21st and 22nd of June. Roughly 1.2m of snow has been melted within 46 days! It could be the earliest drainage since 2016?
