航空写真家・ユーチューバーの Elwyn R 氏 がイギリスの有名な低空飛行訓練エリア「マック・ループ（Mach Loop）」で撮影した、米空軍第67特殊作戦飛行隊所属の MC-130J の映像。

沖縄の米軍嘉手納基地に配備されている「第353特殊作戦航空群」でも、かつて運用されていたMC-130Hコンバット・タロン II はすでに全機退役しており、現在はすべてこのMC-130J コマンドー IIに更新されています。

特殊部隊の潜入支援や、オスプレイ・ヘリコプターへの空中給油など、隠密かつ過酷な任務をこなす非常にタフな機体です。

このMC-130Jは、イギリスのイングランド東部にあるマイルデンホール空軍基地（RAF Mildenhall）に配備されている、アメリカ空軍第67特殊作戦飛行隊（67th SOS "Night Owls"）の機体です。

そのため、彼らにとってウェールズのマック・ループは「わざわざ遠出する場所」ではなく、「国内のいつもの超一級訓練場」という位置づけになります。

マック・ループが彼らの訓練に重宝される理由は主に3つあります。

・本物の「地形追従」訓練ができる：特殊作戦機は敵のレーダーを避けるため、山あいを縫うように超低空（高度約75m以下）で隠密飛行するスキルが必須です。マック・ループの険しい谷間は、その腕を磨くのにこれ以上ない環境です。

・基地から目と鼻の先：拠点のミルデンホール基地からウェールズのマック・ループまでは、C-130Jの足なら離陸してすぐ（30〜40分程度）で到着できる距離です。

・イギリス政府（RAF）との協定：米空軍はイギリス空軍（RAF）の広大な低空飛行訓練空域（LFA7）を使用する正式な許可を得ており、日常的にF-15やF-35といった戦闘機、そしてこのMC-130Jのような特殊作戦機を飛ばして共同・単独の訓練を行っています。

ちなみに、時には4機のMC-130Jが縦一列のフォーメーション（編隊）を組んでこの狭い谷に突入していく、鳥肌が立つような超絶技巧の訓練も行われています。
